Campiagn Kill Count :31,745. And growing.

All the forum rules make sense.. and I understand all of them pretty well.. except the one about replying to spam.

How is that really bad? I know your really supposed to report it and move on.. but I don't see how sticking a post will mess anything up. It will move it higher on the forum list.. and if anything, that would make it easier for mods to see, and lock.

Maybe I'm missing something.. I've gotten two warnings for the replying to spam thing.. and I'm just confused as to why they are such an offense. Could someone clear this up for me?

If it doesn't get bumped, it isn't a nuisance, so doesn't even need locking. You bumping it keeps it alive longer, so you're assisting the spam. The ninjas dont need to see it on the front page to lock it - that's why theyre ninjas. Just ignore it, flag it, and move on.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

It's better to let it die than to let it fill the first page. If you reply to spam you are actually spamming, and breaking rules yourself; because you are keeping it alive and you make sure others see it.
I believe that's the reasoning behind it=)

EDIT: Damn you elmicker for being so fast

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

In short, it's because you are giving the spammer what they want, attention. And by replying to the spam thread, you are bumping it to the top of the threads in the forum. When you reply to a spam thread you are pushing other legitimate topics lower down the list. I hope this answers your question.

Edit: ......Elmicker, Qbix, and Havok all beat me to it.

You are feeding the trolls and contributing to a thread already against rules.

Exactly. If all spam got you was a nice long blacklist, no one would really bother doing it. However since it is usually treated to several responses, they see no reason to stop.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

That's how I got my only warning too, heh.

Anyways the rule is probably there so the topic doesn't get bumped. There's no need to post in it as it's not on subject.

The problem I face however is that sometimes I'm afraid to post. Like when this one guy called Americans racist I just had to post but I thought I was gonna get a warning because of it.. Luckily I didn't get a warning from that though

I personally don't see posting to spam a major problem. I would rather just have the original poster banned. But I can see why people who reply get warnings, so I don't mind the rule that much.

Yeah.. I guess your right. I don't know. They stress it more than a lot of things.. but it defanintly isn't the worst thing someone can do.

Thanks though.

Hello.

Well, replying to spam is like bumping a lot in a non-spam thread....

I've seen 30+ people getting banned in one thread, and many of those only made one reply.

The reason I used to reply was to get attention to it, and get it locked.

I absolutely hate it when someone posts ghey -blam!-, and no one even noticees, and they get away without a single warning, while I tried to promote justice, and get blacklisted. But I guess my well intentioned actions have backfired. That is why I have given up.

Just hit the report button. PM a mod if it really annoys you.
I don't see the need to post in the thread. As I said. That only gives the spammer what he wants. Attention.

EDIT: Maybe someone else said it. I don't remember. At least someone said it.

Besides, Spam tastes bad anyways. Why anyone would make a post about this horrible meat is a mystery to me. Seriously though, It may help Mods see it faster, but it also bumps down and interrupts all the good conversation on the forums. Report it and move on.

"Promoting justice", as you say it, is bumping spam. You don't need to forum-cop other members--thats why we have the Ninjas. And you can help the Ninjas by using the report button.
I like the current rules, it allows spam so leave the first page, and, if you're smart, after you violate the rule once, you wont again.

As elmicker said... If everyone ignores it and it drops off the front page, it's as if it's been locked. Threads are locked so they'll fall off the front page; not responding to spam means we don't need to wait for it to get locked before it disappears.

Speaking of which, what the hell happened in here? I've never seen so many locked threads on the front page of the Septagon. Who told the nimwits about this place?

Spam isn't necessarily a bad thing, I think Bungie.net would be boring without spam. There should be more spam in the forums.

Basically if it's something that just doesn't belong, it's spam.

Also you will never use racism against the other team" I never bumped it or anything the sighn had like 20 signatures! then they locked it, and gave me a warning. Wow....that really said much..
