Why is it that a word like -blam!- is censored into -blam!- but a word like R*ping is not censored? (yes i censored them myself

How are words determined to be -blam!- worthy?
The French-Canadian Slang work "T*barnak" is censored when all it is, is a curse against the church, kind of like saying "Christ!" or "Jesus Christ!" as a curse.

R*pe is -blam!-'d why not R*ping..or R*ped?

not angry...just curious

IIRC, Achronos took MSN's old word filter list, and added a tonne more gamer-specific ones.

i suspect that they have compiled a list of words that are considered offensive. sadly, people use a word that describes a violent -blam!- offense quite often while playing video games. using that word in any of its forms has huge potential to offend people

It is a racial slur against Italians.

As long as they dont blam Phoque, i will be happy....Phoques are so cute.

Phoque is pronounced the same as the english "F" word but means "baby seal"

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Actually, i took out a whole lot of things MSN does. That was a somewhat amusing meeting, deciding which words were cursing and which were not. They have some pretty twisted stuff. Also, the Germans have some of the best sounding swear words.

But more than a few artifacts remain from it.

Wow I'm amazed guido is not blammed. I was at work the other day and this jerk called this guy a guido and it all went downhill form there.

Anyways, I think the purpose is to piss off as few people as possible. Or maybe it's so that people can come up with a better comeback or ignorant statement than -blam!- or ass. Either way, I think it's here for many good reasons.

Ass is not really a bad word.

TBH, however accepted in modern english they may be, I don't believe R*ping..or R*ped are actual words. The proper way to say any sentence you would use these words in does not call for them. They are part of the modern 'spoken' language but not real words.

Does your list and the Forge word blam! list have anything to do with each other? I still don't always understand why some names or descriptions get censored in Forge.

I believe that just goes through the user created content filter by Microsoft. If something simple gets filtered it's most likely because of a bug. Around the time Live was down everything was being censored... I don't know why it does that.

You don't have to be swearing in Russian, it still sounds brutal.

The Bungie.net word filter has confused me a few times... Words which I would have never thought offensive, or even words I have never heard of are often -Blam-ed...

Halo 3 - I named a map "Power" and it was fine, but the next time I loaded it, it said the name I had chosen was -Blam-ed... ??

I would guess that R*ped is left out as it is a common gamer word used as more of a minor insult than an actually offensive gesture-

Examples:
"Blue team got raped"
"We were raping those guys"
"I'm going to -blam!- you at halo!"

Edit: Oddly R*pe is classed as profanity yet the others aren't. I have no idea why. I would guess it is because -blam!- is future tense and is the only way of actually insulting someone using the term.

"I'm going to -blam!- your mum" couldn't be anything else without more elaboration.

The word that always confused me was c*ckpit. Alot of topics discussing a Pelican would have that word -blam!- -ed and then there would be a follow up post by the poster asking why there was a random -blam!- in there.
