"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.
For every step you risk death no matter how ridiculous it sounds. One boy took one too many. He was innocent, unsuspecting and very frightful of the dark, merely a shadow throws him in a fit. Nyctohylophobia made itself known, and turned into the most petrifying nightmare one curiously cold summer day.
Boy enjoyed the basement of his 2 story house, 4 roomed and filled with toys, a television and even a gaming console stuffed in the corner collecting dust. The only obstacle to these ambrosiac delights, is the lack of light. The light switch; mounted at the bottom of the stairs would force Boy to venture through the shadows to activate the switch. He tried one time.
His wobbling legs trickled down the staircase ever so carefully. Unfortunately he made quite a fall. It occured so bluntly he could not tell what forced this collapse. The boy became terrified, fearing the monsters would go after him. He screamed and kicked, could not tell where he was and at the same time imagining the horrors in his head come at him. Too bad, this happening would endure. forever. In more unexpected ways then one.
One decade plus two later , Boy was in 6th grade, still somewhat young, but his fear of shadows shadowed by friends, school and puberty. Nyctohydra however, would make itself known to him once more, never letting Boy go on without him following....
Home. Secure. Safe. Warmth. He had a hard day at school with a science test, and couldn't get his mind off a possible failing grade. As he unpacked his book bag his mother, Jolene called for him to retrieve some eggs out of the auxiliary hunk of junk fridge in the basement. Used to store meats and product to be used at dinners.
Boy had long forgotten his fear of shadows, but he did NOT forget his accident. A simple fall, pain and horrors. As he ventured down the archaic staircase into the basement, he flipped on the lights and hiked through the piles of move-in boxes. As he got the fresh dozen o' eggs, he took a moment to think about his accident once more. As he did, something inside of him awoke.
Escaped.
Angry.
Screaming.
The Nyctohylophobia came to roost once more. Boy froze, and noticed the lights seemed to dim without a dimmer, and a room adjacent to the fridge, which has not been in use for years; door closed; was breathing with intensity. Rather vibrating and shaking with malacious intent. It stopped seconds later.
The Nyctohydra awoke. And made its presence known. Boy peered down the large hallway. His vision distorted, or was it the shadows? The room ahead faded to black. A void capped by only a door frame. It was a strange sight. the shadows crept in all over...devouring all walls and furniture in it's path, raping sound and making its own. It spoke.
"See to it that you slumber under me.I will make fresh fear from you" The darkness spoke in a low pitched growl. Boy glared at his fingers, blood stained. Blackening with shadows, the Nyctohydra consuming. Boy ran, ran into the open void doorway. Weather it led to his home or Hell made no difference. The hate and concentrated evil he could feel in this dark place was worse. Perhaps a secret level 10 of Hell he thought, his mothers teachings only taught 9.
He stepped through, true world coming to fruition. He took no time to breathe in the more human air. The stairs would allow his ascent to safety...
As he climbed, he could hear, and even feel the shreiks and howels of the dark NyctoHydra attempting a clean, cold kill. Boy saw.
As he reached the peak of the staircase, the door at the top was seemingly locked. As he struggled with the knob, he turned his head back, the darkness was gone. But the NyctoHydra remained. Behind a perpendicular wall. An eerie calling sound grew stronger as a floating demonic face monster took behold a presence. It slowly ventured up. Screaming and thrashing. It stared intently. Not a moment too soon, the door unlocked and Boy opened, threw himself on the otherside and shut the door.
The NyctoHydra remained on the other side. Boy being safe, knew it wouldn't last.He didn't get the eggs. He must've dropped them on the way out of the hellhole.
"What's wrong honey?!"
Boy collapsed into a fetal position. No words spoke as a response. He wasn't safe. The NyctoHydra was him. It consumed him.
Run from your fears, and the fears will only run faster. Consuming your inner flesh with horrifying intent. Don't make any more bad steps, please. Even if it's all in your head.
Now that was a pretty good write. Out of the top of my head with some true things that happened. Hell, maybe I should write it into a full blown book(several events made this, something odd happened when I was young).
