This is the new Heckler & Koch XM-8 Battle Rifle being made for the U.S. Army:
XM-8

Is it just me, or are there some startling similarities between it and the UNSC Battle Rifle? Does H&K owe Bungie Studios some money?

That looks remarkably familiar almost like something in a game. Oh wait it looks almost exactly like the battle rifle. And that plastic looks sissy

The XM-8... based on the HK G36 assault rifle, no doubt. And while it may look sissy, the polymer frame is more durable and flexible than metal. So, the XM-8 does not remind me of the Battle Rifle; the Battle Rifle fires 9.5mm rounds if I remember correctly whereas the XM-8 fires 5.56mm NATO rounds, and the Battle Rifle has a bullpup layout for better accuracy. These two weapons really aren't very similar... In fact, I'd rather have a G36 than a XM-8.

I would want the G36 too, the XM8 looks to stupid will the different colors, they should just make em black. If you really look at the XM8, the onyl design similarity that it has with the new Battle Rifle is the scope rail on top of the gun. In reality, the new Battle Rifle shares more features with the French made FAMAS. Not the second variant FAMAS with the full trigger/handle guard, but the first generation one that has just the trigger guard and is equiped with a folding bipod.

The closest matches to Halo guns in real life are probably the Mechem NTW-20 anti-materiel rifle and the HK MP7 for the SMG.

US Army 2... this time America strikes with dual weilding, vehicle boarding, and the ability to see its own legs.

Simularities, I see.....the scope and the gun barrel look the same but the BR is made out of metal, and I'd rather have:
1. .45 Caliber USP or SOCOM pistol
2.The Battle rifle would perform better than the XM-8

Okay, I was askng about a prefx, not markings, and 500 years into the future, I would HOPE that the Battle Rifle would perform better.

It's called memory. It can come in handy sometimes. But seriously, my guess would be these guys did some time in the armed forces, or they're just firearm enthusiasts.

For those of you who might happen to be interested in a little more than just the pretty picture, especially those who like to know anything at all about what you're talking about, here's a link.

I'm not sure, but I imagine that they let out the explosion that propels the payload while keeping that payload properly on course. If it just comes right out of a flush opening, the gases expanding in chaotic ways might disrupt the projectile's flight a bit since it's free of the guiding barrel. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, I'm curious too.

That thing looks blamn slick, and lightweight. It might be a heavy cosmetic influence on the battle rifle in Halo 2, but it might not. Bungie might have given the battle rifle a metallic look over realism because of some people's ignorance... Posted by: Pistol_Pete

That sissy-looking polymer case probably has much more strength for its mass than old school Iron, resists corrosion much better, and almost surely has more favourable heat conduction properties.
