Why they're doing the XM-8 and not going to go with a newly envisioned version of the G-11 with the same variability of function I have no idea. The H&K G11 was a far superior weapon.

that gun is in Ghost Recon 2.the people at Red Storm have replicas of it and all the other weapons in the game. jusr read the newest OXM

I agree the G11 was a badass weapon, but due to the reunification of east and west Germany the gun was dropped from developement. The other reason it wasnt persued is that getting ammunition suppliers to put money and R&D into a new type of round would be a hassle. The gun that they shoudlve picked instead of the XM8 was the FN F2000, thats a badass gun. I dont know why American gun makers stick to the standard layout instead of going to a bullpup design.

BTW, the only feature that the XM8 and BR have in comon is the scope rail. At least in the future theyre smart enough to use the bullpup layout.

Absolutely correct Wasp. The bullpup is the only way to go. The extra barrel length that it supplies makes for a marked difference in both power and accuracy. What is the US military thinking?
