It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Are they illegal or not?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

In the Flood, they are.

Does anyone know the reason? And someone ought to update the rules. <.<

Shouldn't really need to be in the rules. The Flood is the only forum that does not have a specific dedication. We don't just pull these forum names out of our asses, ya know. The Flood is the only forum who's name does not reflect it's literal content (though exception is grudgingly allowed for the Halo 3 Forum, as participants there refuse to adhere to the rules and guidelines regardless).

Note the bolded. The forum's purpose is all that is off topic. Thus, is seems a natural home for forum games. And please, tell me that there are more constructive topics in the Flood that are getting pushed off the front. I'd love a good laugh.

What about it? Have forum games been recently condemned and locked by moderators? I definitely do not frequent that place, so what I know is simply what I've heard and figured to myself over the last couple of years.

Yeah. A couple of mods went and locked a bunch of topics, and for the life of me I can't figure out why. There was only one thread in the Septagon asking for the threads to be locked, and it wasn't even very large. It seemed to me that more people liked them than disliked them, and since they arne't causing any harm...

Hmm.

What goes on in HFCS is their business. I can ask a few mod friends about it, perhaps. Can't guarantee anything, however.

Get me the inside scoop, will ya?

The mods are neither scary nor rude people- if I wanted to PM any of them, I'd be perfectly capable of doing so. Not to mention the fact that there are two in IRC right now. I made this question, not a PM, for a reason.

Mainly, because they are rather annoying, and for the most part serve no purpose. Other than a bunch of one line posts that go absolutely no where. Granted, they are rather entertaining for a short time, but by the time people start wanting attention and create a Forum Game themselves, it's old. Honestly though, they are, indirectly, spam. It's a legitimate post, but what the original poster is asking for is pretty much spam. These have been my experiences over the years anyway.

As for the rules, I think it's one of those temporary rules, kind of like the rule about 'Rate the users______ above you' threads a while back. It will probably stay in place till they die down a bit, since there is still a few popping up here and there.

I can't get a hold of one of them right now, but this is a discussion forum, not a forum games forum.

Make of that what you will.

Ah. Well in the many seasons I've been here, they're perfectly fine. Some of the best threads I've ever seen on this site have been forum games. And to address the "they serve no purpose" bit: nothing here serves a purpose. Do you think that a thread asking what football team your school has serves any purpose other than giving the OP attention? Nope. Should they be banned? Nope. It's a legit thread, and a lot of people enjoy it. Just since it pisses off three people who happen to post a thread in the Flood doesn't mean they should be blacklisted.

In my humble, humble opinion, I think that an even bigger stunt is trying to get them banned. Think about it- there's no reason to. It's an off topic thread in an off topic forum- it's exactly where it belongs. It entertains a lot of people. Not all, sure, but you can't please everyone. The majority really don't give a damn. So it's doing its job there, too. There's absolutely no logical reason to want these threads gone other than simply being a selfish jerk who want to get his way, or wanting your name to be known. You're that guy who got those threads banned.

And no, they aren't "legitimate spam". In no way are those threads any more spam than any other threads on this site. They aren't put there just to take up space and bump other threads off the front page. They aren't there to insult anyone. They're there for a purpose, and they entertain.

EDIT: fix't

Point taken Menace, but I still stand by my work; even though I was rather unclear. You remember the 'Rate the_____of the user above you threads', correct? Well, this is that same instance just with something different. The 'Forum Games' have produced so many that are ultimately the same, that they fill up the front page and are considered spam by many users, including myself.

To me at least, the threads are legitimate for a certain time period. Then, after a while, no more discussion takes place and it's just a pissing contest to see who can get the most replies; since Forum Game threads usually do get the most replies in the fastest time.

They are a good thing, stress relief and what not, but when it becomes a pissing contest, I see it as spam myself. It is most likely, as said above, only a temporary rule; should lift in a few months unless there has been further discussion concerning the issue.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I think that most of those that were locked a few weeks ago were only because they were crappy games that were pretty much spam. A guy saw someone post a game, then they created their own crappy version of it and posted it too. At least, that's why I though they were locked.

I think as long as they're actually thought out and legit forum games I think they're fine. Like the "rate the _____ of the user above you threads" weren't thought out, and most they were getting pretty repetitive.

"Rate the user above you" threads are about a specific user- the user is simply changing to whoever posted second to last. Thus, they have legitimate grounds to be against the rules.

The rest I'm too tired to debate with. Some of it is right, but on principle I don't think they should be locked. I'll wait for a mod to reply.

Forum games are illegal when they're annoying, ill-thought-out, and/or copypasta. A good forum game will not be locked, just things like"Forum Game: Start a Rumor!"

I have nothing against either of those. :P
