OK everybody.
Xbox Connect is to be found at www.xbconnect.com
If you SCROLL DOWN in the downloads bit you will see you don't have to pay and you can get a less advanced but FREE version of the software.
You then install the software and plug an ethernet cable (not a crossover (i.e not system link)) into your router, or possibly NIC card and make sure that you have the correct ports open on any firewalls you may have, You then follow the instruction in xbconnect and its easy.
Personally, i think Xbox live is much better. I have a 512/256 connection and get a fair amount of lag on xbconnect. There are also not many players and even fewer PAL players. So that means no inter-region playing. Like you can on xbox live,
Xbox live has much less lag, almost none. It also has tons of great features such as voice comm, freinds list, downloadable content etc.
Xbox live is great value for money, if you buy more than 10 games a year like i do and consider yourself "hardcore" and have the right equipment its obvious how great a deal it is. For one "game" of money you have a whole year of online gaming. Not bad,
The only good reason not to have Live for halo2 is either because you can't have broadband (for reasons out of your control). i was in that situation just a month ago. Or perhaps because the cost of getting a connection to your xbox is too high. (say you only have a usb modem and would need to buy a whole load of new stuff).
