Subject: Need help getting my buddy hooked up to xbox live via DSL.

My friend has AOL broadband DSL, as he upgraded from his dial-up not too long ago.
However, our fruitless attempts at getting his 360 hooked up to live has netted no results, and he so badly wants to jump online and start playing H3 with me (amongst other games). Now, at the moment he nas no router, only a modem.

Xbox live CS tells us to talk to the internet company, and vice versa. Our progress is near nigh, and we need some help from the Bnet community.

I wish it was as easy as mine, where i simply jacked my modem into my router, and jacked my computers and 360 onto my router and started gamin and surfin (on hispeed cable).

Perhaps a router will clear up his problems? or does it have something to do with his aol account's username and password? (though we tried that, with what we THOUGHT were the right pass and username).

help is greatly appreciated!

My friend has AOL

Well there's your problem...

Heck, I dunno, though if I were him I'd get a different provider.

I'm so good at Halo, Chuck Norris has me as an avoided player.

I agree. AOL = fail. What is the specifics of the connection problem when it tries to connect to Live?

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

Most of the time this is a firewall issue. I would have jumped at the opportunity to make fun of this post because AOL does = *facepalm*, but Comcast did the same thing to me. Some providers do not allow PtP sharring of information and that can block users from accessing the interwebs via XBox or Wii (WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!)

Resolution:

Go to Xbox.com and go to the support tab. There are lists of appropriate settings and routers that are functional with XBL. You can either find your solution there, or try to convince one of those AOL reps to actually give a damn and help you out.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Are you setting your IP, DNS, and likely PPPoE settings on your 360? Match them with what is given to you by your ISP, or perhaps what is set on your computer:

(XP SP2) :Control Panel>Network Connections>right click on netowrk port>Properties>select TCP/IP>click properties

Кланяються мені!

though there may be other issues, it is likely AOL, because it is not a compatible ISP needed for xbox live.

It's also possible that you may have the network settings incorrect. Look at the documentation that came with the modem for said settings. There may also be something someplace on the modem itself. Oh, and...

Well, Hello folks, I am the buddy cursed with the internet provided AOL. The error my 360 gets is that it can't negotiate the DHCP server or something.

My modem dosn't seem to get a gateway number. Like it dosn't show on my computer...

My network properties for my modem seem to lack anything for

Default gateway, DNS server and WINS server. Also all of my IP stuff is done automaticly.

i have an idea, tell your gramps that you'd like a better internet service for passing, rather than a new graphics card.
