Sides, I(unfortunately) have a rep. as being a kind of forum cop, which I'm trying very hard to back down from. I hardly ever link people to the right forum now. Course now I see dozens many more advertisements than normal...but I'm sure that's just coincidence.
At the very least, I form coherent sentences. That's more than a lot of the community does I see, hah.
There's a difference between being a "Forum Cop" and being an active and helpful community member. A forum cop is someone who says "Locked" or "This thread is spam and can a ninja lock it please."
A constructive community member advises other members on where things go, what forum would be best suite for a specific topic, and just being an overall helpful guy. There is nothing wrong with informing a fellow member of their mistake, so long as you do it respectfully and intelligently.
If more people took the time to be helpful and guide along members who are confused, this would be a much better community.
