The United States of America-- STILL more rights than North Korea!

Cronin's Law----The New Flood Drinking Game

I speak of the XM-8 of course. Everyone says it is 'years ahead', but I haven't read anything to prove that (and i've read alot). As far as I can tell, its a good gun, but not worth all the hype its getting. I just want some links to stuff I haven't read before that tells me what makes it 'years ahead'

Isn't it the gun that the guy on the cover of Ghost Recon 2 is holding? If not I hang my head very low.

Well the main reason for this hype, is the adaptablity of the gun. From basic assault rifle, to sharpshooter, to light-machine gun and then to smg. It has a variety of modules to help the soldiers adapt to new situations. And the light plastic design cuts down on the weight the soldiers must carry. But I think that the metal and wood of Kalysnikov(sp) rifles are still more dependable.

  • 01.22.2005 1:42 PM PDT

the answer to your (Tex Ben) question is classified. it can only be seen by those of the highest ranks, and none other.

the model is very complex and took years of research (not to mention billions of dollars) to finally perfect.

and the reason its the gun of the future is.... it looks freakin AWESOM!!!!

True, it is lighter, and comes in many configurations, but it isn't years ahead of everyone else... I read somewhere that its internal workings are basically the same as the G-36-series? Im not doubting that it is a good gun, and a logical step up in technology from the M16 series, but it isn't the be-all end-all of small arms.

and it looks kinda nasty painted tan.

It is based off the G-36 series, look at this image it shows how very similar it is to the G-36: http://news.xinhuanet.com/mil/2003-12/28/xinsrc_f0b0de5fca644 1509cecbbceaed3e465_A2.jpg

Oh I'm going to miss the old M-16 rifle!!! sniff it was my favorite gun of all time. Including the M4A1 Carbine. Now it's time for the future. Presenting the new XM-8!

I saw this gun on Mail Call. he did all kinds of stuff with it, including burying it in sand, then firering it, submerging it in water, then fireing it, and switching it from 12.5 inch barrel to a sniper 20 inch, it will replace all of the M-16 and M-4s out ther in a few years, dont underestimate plastic, glock has been using this plastic for years,

The gun looks like its trying to be X-TREME. they should have just made a variation on the M-16 that made it more powerful, but look the same(ish). but, alas, im not an expert on the army or on guns, so i guess this is for the best.

Yeah the G-36 does rock. But apparently there are already some xm-8's given out to some squads in Iraq and other places. So we may soon know how well it does in actual battlefield situations.

what im really curious about is that futuristic armor/weaponry featured on Ghost Recon 2's special features. The "future marines" have this awesom Spartan-like armor and extremely accurate pistols (wich seem to have grenade launchers attached). thier real people in the pics, so its not some artist rendition of what they might look like.

Are you talking about the guys in the black suits, and the four barreled pistols. I have also seen ones with a four barrelled, device on their wrist. The size of the barrel suggests a grenade launching, or explosive tipped bullets.

Yeah, they are also making this new type of firing mechanism, forgot what it is. But all the bullets are in the barrel of the firearm. Then when you pull the trigger a electrical charge runs along the barrel. Till it reaches the bullet that is closest to the end of the barrel, setting off the charge. They can also reprogram the trigger, to fire in certain ways, like one at a time or all at once, etc.
