I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature on the board that would allow members to add other members to a blacklist so that all topics/posts created by a member aren't shown for you if have them on your blacklist. Unfortunately that would mean adding the majority of the members posting on here but at least I could go through topics without puking in my mouth a little every time some meat head posts the most asinine crap on the forum.

Either that or a way for members to rank a topic up/down so the good topics make it to the front pages and the crap gets sorted out to the back of the bus. This would definitely be a plus for the forums so members don't have to go through ten pages of crap just to find three or four good topics.

I'm wondering if there is an even better way to rid the forums of the ignoramus posting here..

Does anyone else feel a little disgusted over how bad it is? I mean really I've never seen anything like it before I started reading the topics here.

Well here's to hoping Bungie puts something in that will allow the rest of us to enjoy the forums while even encouraging more members to post that don't due to all the crap spewing from topics here.

What does everyone else think? Is a feature like this needed or should we just suck it up and sort through the crap? I'm curious, please post a reply with your thoughts.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Well I don't think a feature like this is NEEDED. I'm kind of indifferent to it. I can say with pretty good conviction that I would never use it as a member, because it would be too hard to follow the context of a discussion after awhile.

None of the posts here are so bad that they've made my eyes fall out yet. Some can be pretty bad, yes, but I'd rather know that I was not missing anything that occurred in the thread.

Stop Mocking Us!

And yes the feature might make you misunderstand what people are saying.

I think the best way to solve this problem is to make it so when that member is blacklisted there topics they post can be viewed separately maybe from the right panel under "Blacklisted Topics" and so that there isn't any confusion when the users posts in another topic it could just show there posts initially unexpanded so it would just show their name in the topic and you could hit a "+" or "Expand" button which would drop down what they said. This way everything will still make sense in a topic but you can avoid reading what they have to say and expand to view to understand a reply someone makes to them or the flow of the conversation. You can see this formula used on most social news sites in a similar manner.

I think that this idea is good in theory, but of very dubious usefulness. How would this ranking system work? Would it simply move the topic down, and if so, which topics get to go ahead of it? Also, if you "blacklist" one user because he posted something unpleasant, chances are that he's just another nincompoop who doesn't know what to post--he'll get banned for it and there goes the usefulness of the blacklisting function.

Кланяються мені!

I'd have to say if you do see an offensive user, he will likely be banned so no worrys right?

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I've seen this feature on a couple of other boards, and it just didn't seem productive. One large problem is that even if you can't see a user's posts, you can see anyone who quotes him. That renders it largely useless in many cases.

Another problem is overuse of the feature; some members just block anyone who says anything they don't like. This leads to some people walking around and potentially saying the same things that have already been said.

Personally, I would never use it, and in general I think it's not a great idea.

The topic ranking doesn't necessarily have to be something you view when accessing each forum but something that shows on the right side like Pinned, Top Forum Topics.. You could have Ranked Topics that shows a list of topics by Rank allowing users to sort through what people have ranked as good/bad. There would be no sliding scale rank from 1 to 10 or anything it would just be a simple Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down type of rank. Could also have the option to "see all ranked topics" like the Top Forum Topics has. This feature would be useful because it would let users that don't want to sift through all the useless topics and just view the good stuff that has been given the "Thumbs Up" by the users.

It's not that people are really posting anything unpleasant it's just that people are posting stuff that is really dumb and or immature. I'm not interested in 90% of the crap some of the "kids" on here are posting and it would be nice to be able to sort that crap out. I'm guessing this is mainly because the forums are all ages. While they may be banned I continue to see this stuff every day so the bans can't be permanent as I continue to see the same names posting as well.

While it could be viewed when someone quotes the user I would think if Bungie did these kind of updates they could also make it so quotes could be unexpanded as well. Of course they would have to make some changes in order for it to work but they would have to anyways to add these types of features to the board system.

I really haven't seen anything that I would say that has been said by someone I would want to block. This of course could happen.. doesn't double posting happen often though for stuff on here? It happens on any forum when people don't do a search for something they have a question about..etc.

That, and the fact that if a thread is crap, you start raining apocalypse in the form of the banhammer on it.

[statement of opinion] I would really like an ignore list, mainly so i can block out the flavour-of-the-month cool kids in the flood.

[in conclusion] I cant really seem what harm it could do other than possibly melt Bnet.

BTW.. I don't think both features would be necessary for integration into the board system.. one of them would be sufficient. I just figured I would make two suggestions that would help out.

While you could always just not read the topic/post it doesn't mean you still don't have to sift through 10 pages just to find a few good topics.

I feel like I'm missing some of the good stuff though due to all the garbage coming in and pushing it to the back before anyone gets a chance to have an intelligent conversation on something worth while. I'm generally talking about the HALO 3 Forum though.. I haven't really looked into the others much.

Either or would work for me as far as a blacklist/ignore feature or topic ranking.
