1. ACCT Questions

Why Can't I Create a New Topic?

If you just joined Bnet, you won't be able to create a topic for 24 hrs. You may, however, post as much as you'd like.

Can I Change my Bnet Acct Name?

No. The reason being is the simple fact of its too hard to know who people are if they are always changing identities. So hope you like the name you picked!

How do I get The 7th Column Symbol to Appear Online?

You must go to your profile, hit edit, scroll down and the option is at the bottom. Remember, turning it on is the only way to achieve linktaculars!

What Can I do About Vicious PM's?

Block that user from sending you further PM's. Don't PM Mods, they can't do anything about it. You moderate your own PM system.

How come I played the game on Legendary and it hasn't showed that I beat it on that difficulty? Also How come I'm X rank, Military or Numeric, and it hasn't showed up on Bnet Yet?

You must play another game for it to update. "This is a side affect of the stats system" - Achronos. Also you can wait some time to have it update.

2. General Bungie Questions

How are Bungie Favorites Picked?

They are in fact, BUNGIE'S favorites. You don't apply for favorites, nor do you ask to be put in them. Bungie employees will pick what they like each week or two and adjust them accordingly.

I want to Challenge Bungie! What is the Bungie Humpdays?

You don't challenge Bungie. They challenge you. Everyone wants to play them, but they don't have time to play everyone. Humpdays are always conducted on Wednesdays and usually posted by Lukems on Thursdays. The article contains mini coverage on all 3 games played, and a link to the videos if you wish to watch.

There is a Community Carnage that you can participate in though. Signups start every Wednesday (usually) and games are held on Saturdays, times pending.

Bungie's Weekly Schedule

Tuesday - Usually an update/News Story.
Thursday - Humpday Coverage.
Friday - Weekly Update, usually 7-9 PM EST.

All other times are open for any story Bungie feels is newsworthy. Check back everyday.

4. General Forum Questions

Who is Achronos?

Achronos, aka Tom, is the Overlord of this site. He is in charge of Bungie's Web Team.

I have seen members with different text colors. How is this?
- The standard member* (Member, Heroic, Legendary, and Mythic) all post in white text.
- Forum Ninjas* and Master Forum Ninjas* all post in orange text.
- Bungie Employees* all post in gold text.

Can I advertise my groups and clans in these forums? 1 v 1? Clan Matches?

What are Mods? How are they selected?

Moderator FAQ

What Powers do Forum Ninjas have?

The moderators of bungie.net, or more commonly know as forum ninjas, moderate and keep the forums clean. They have more power than normal members. Forum Ninjas are able to edit posts, sticky posts, lock posts, and delete posts. They can also blacklist members, but they determine how long the blacklist is for. Master Forum Ninjas can do all of that plus they can post news on the bungie.net homepage. They can also edit blacklists, and permaban members.

What is this Spam filter that has been added to the forums?

The spam filter prevents massive spam attacks that consume multiple pages of forums and stops other types of spam too. You cannot post more than 7 topics per day, and you cannot post a topic within 5 minutes of posting a previous topic. You can’t reply within 30 seconds of posting a previous reply, yet there is no limit on how many replies you can make in a day.

Can I have a custom avatar on these forum?

No. This would cause many problems with uploading avatars, preventing immature content and the likes. Because of this, custom avatars are given as a well valued prize to anyone who helps the Seventh Column drastically. You can change your avatar by picking which one you would like out of a list. While signed in, go to “My Settings” in the top tool bar, then click on “Avatar”, and there will be multiple pages of avatars listed to choose from. Once you select an avatar by clicking the bubble next to it, press “Modify Settings” to make the change.

Can I submit Avatars to Bungie?

Certainly! All avatars must be 90x90 pixels and it has to relate to bungie in some way. Avatars must also be less than 20kb (thanks Butane123!). Note that when you send your avatar, if the bungie web team approves of your avatar, it is theirs to use however they want to. If it becomes approved, it will be added to the list for all members to choose from and use. Also note that if you are using some one else’s artwork, you must have approval from them before submitting the avatar. All avatars can be sent to this email address. 7hemes@gmail.com

What is the Report Function? How does it work? How/What Should I report? Abuse?

The report function is the quick and easy way to alert the Mods that a post is inappropiate. Examples include personal attacks, spam and anything generally against forum rules.

The report function works as the following: You hit the report button and a value of "1" is added to that threads spam report count or w/e Bungie calls it. The mods then proceed to use an item called a "spam queve" to help them find the most reported threads fast and efficiently. Also the mods still mod away on their own when browsing forums.

You should report all unnessacary threads, all spam, and prettymuch anything that doesn't seem to have any intelligence behind it. (That doesn't mean report just because you disagree)

If you report to many threads that don't get locked eventually, then refrain from reporting that type of thread. You should be able to tell the difference between the discussions and spam.

Also if you abuse the report feature, I.E. just report everything for the hell of it, the system can tell. Achronos wrote the feature and he told us that.

Why are there no Post Counts?

Post counts were deleted off Bnet due to the simple fact that users abused it, such as, "I have more posts therefore I am better!"

Where'd the Sigs Go?

You must now hit the top arrow by the groups button.

Where can I Introduce Myself?

How are the Top Forum Topics Picked?

They are currently picked by the number of times a thread has been saved by the userbase. I believe Achronos said this may change someday.

How Do I Make a Poll?

Once you go to create a new forum topic, just hit the "add a poll" button directly below the area that you write your poll answers in.

The End

‘The conscious is cancerous if allowed to linger’

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

I'll work on a blacklistings section, if you like ;-)

40 Minutes later:
________________________________________________________

Blacklisting 101

The term blacklisting basically means a member that has been banned (unable to post, the forums become read-only for the banned user) from the public forums for any given time for a variety of reasons. Blacklistings are dealt out by the Forum Ninjas who are the moderators of the Bungie.net public forums and who commonly lock threads that are in violation with the CoC and/or Terms of Use as well as for other reasons, the most common and obvious of which can be found here.

If you are banned the duration can be seen upon trying to submit a post. If you have been banned you will be redirected to a page that tells you who banned you, a link to the thread where you were banned in and a date when the ban expires. If you wish to know why you were banned it is best to consult the moderator who blacklisted you, they are pleasant enough as long as you’re polite, if you aren’t they have the power to lengthen your ban.

Bans can range between 1 day to permanent bans where the user cannot ever post again on the public forums however these are uncommon and minor violations will not result in such a long ban unless the user history is full of warnings and bans which provided you are a good member will not be the case. Creating a new account will also not allow you to bypass a ban, bungie.net has a large variety of tools that only the most trusted staff know of that can track a user even upon making a new account. Using a new account will result in the new account being banned almost immediately.

Moderators are not bungie.net staff and do not represent their opinion, they do however have a lot of trust and respect and a wide knowledge of the rules. If you feel you have been wrongly banned consult a master moderator, if it was a master moderator that banned you and it was for a period of 7 days or more then consult a website admin. It must be understood that the staff will take the mods word over yours in most case’s and that complaining may result in your ban being lengthened. Complain at your own risk and only complain if you are completely certain that you were wrongly blacklisted.

FAQ:

Q. Do moderators have power outside of the public forums in groups?
A. No, their power only extends to the public forums. However website admins (those with gold text) do have power in any region of the site so if you are having problems in your group (such as people repeatedly causing trouble in the group that you cannot control) then consult an admin but even then they may not respond or carry out any action as groups are your responsibility not theirs.

Q. How can I become a moderator?
A. You don’t ask, they ask you. Be a good member, follow the rules, use appropriate language with good spelling and help out where you can but even then modship is not assured or likely but who knows, they could choose you. If you want to help the moderators find people that haven’t followed the rules look under their post for a big button that says “report” click it and the ninjas will be alerted and will try to look at the post as fast as possible to carry out the necessary action.

Q. I got a message from Disembodied Soul about not following the rules; what is that?
Disembodied Soul is a tool used to send out warnings and messages from moderators who do not have the time to manually write a message. If you get a warning from them you should ensure you don’t break the rules anytime soon because you will be under close scrutiny and your next wrong move will likely result in a ban.

Q. How can I tell the difference between a moderator and website admin?
A. Moderators have salmon (orange) coloured text while admins have gold text.

Bungie employees also have gold text.

Here is my NAT guide for anyone who needs it.

You will need to open your routers settings, simply type in your routers IP address in the address bar. If you don't know your routers IP address open command prompt, type in ipconfig and your routers IP will be the default gateway. Enter that into your address bar.

If you can't find command prompt, go to the start menu and select run and type in cmd.

Important
Your 360 and computer have to be using the same router

Next, you will have to log in. Here is a list of default user names and passwords. If you have a different username or password, enter that.
If you haven't logged into you router before it will probably prompt you to change the
username and password. I suggest you leave it as it is, unless you know what you are doing.

Then you have several options,

1.Enabling UPnP,
2.Port forwarding,
3. DMZ. If your router has it DMZ is easier than port forwarding. Basically is opens all of the ports for the one machine that you designate.

UPnP
Enabling UPnP (universal plug n play) is simple, go to administration (depending what kind of router you have I have a linksys) and enable it. Don't forget to save your settings.

In order to use port forwarding or DMZ you have to set up your 360 with a static IP address.
Here is a link that will guide you through that process

Port forwarding
For port forwarding you have to set up your router to open the ports to your 360. In your router settings there should be something like port forwarding, port range forward, or something like that.
Then you have to enter the ports you want forwarded. 88 UDP 3074 UDP 3074 TCP are the ports.

DMZ
If your router has this setting all you have to do is put in your 360's IP address once you have it set up with a static IP address.

Pros and cons
UPnP Pros, The easiest one to do without worrying whether you messed something up. The only con is that your router might not have that option, if it doesn't you might want to check to see if you have the latest firmware settings. Also if your router does have it, it is probably turned off by default.

Port Forwarding Pros, every router should have this option. Cons, It's a longer and a more frustrating process than the other two.

DMZ Pros, easier than port forwarding. Cons, opens all of your ports to the machine you designate, but someone hacking your 360? Not likely.

You also might have to update your routers firmware. Here is how you update the linksys routers (MAKE sure you read that first!!). Go here and select your router, go to downloads and select firmware.

If you don't have a router you don't use NAT
Currently I don't know how to help you if you don't have one.

If you have any questions about this please go here or here

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

Here's some Bungie.net related questions from my H3 FAQ:

What is the Seventh Column and how do you join it?The Seventh Column is Bungie's official fan club and underground army. All groups are part of the 7th Column. So if you are part of a group, you are part of the army.

Where can i find a moderator?Click here.

Is there a place on the Bungie web site where you can view everyone's overall exp points and rank - like a graph or chart?Go to your (or someone else's) Service Record, then click on 'Career Stats,' from there click on 'Ratings History.'

What is -blam!-? Everyone always says it. -blam!- is just a bad word on Bnet that has been filtered out. So if you say the 'S' word, it'll just say -blam!-

Why is Bungie so slow to update my stats?Cause there's a lot of freaking people playing Halo 3 and using Bnet.

Can someone tell me how to put my gamercard here on B.netGo to Xbox.com and sign in with you Windows Live ID. Link your Gamertag and it'll appear in your profile.

Why aren't my screenshots showing up? Click Here. It usually takes 24-48 hours to upload the screenshots.

Why can't I rate anything? Why can't I upload any screenshots? Click here. You need to upload a film to your fileshare first.

Where are my multiplayer games and stats!? Click here. They will appear eventually, it will just take awhile.

Why can't I watch my films on my computer?Saved films are game data, not videos. The only way to get them on your computer is to get a capture card.

What are these '?' things in my career stats? It means that either the game doesn't know what killed you, or you were killed by something outside of the map (land mines on Sandtrap, Plasma turrets on Snowbound, etc.)

Is there a way to see who was the MVP of a match through BNet?No. I'm thinking MVP is the person at the top though.

I took a screenshot while offline. Is there anyway to get it uploaded to Bnet?If you took a screenshot, it is saved on your xbox. Press Start in any lobby and navigate the menus, you will see your screenshots. Just put one in your fileshare and it should come up on Bungie.net. Then, on Bnet, in your File Share, 'Publish to Forum.'

How do you quote people?Click 'Reply' on the person you want to quote. When the next page loads, go down past the 'Body' where you type, and click 'quote.'

How do I join the Bungie Team?Click here.

How do I change that little picture on the left?
To change your Bungie.net avatar, go to the top of the page, scroll over 'My Stats,' and click on 'My Bungie.net Profile.' When the page loads click 'Edit Profile. You'll be able to change your avatar and even get a signature.

Will my penalties ever go away? No.

what are the signs next to the Forum titles?Plus mark=New thread; exclamation point=Sticky; fire=hot topic a lot of people post in; gold symbol=Bungie employee posted there.

Yea, I only reposted them as a suggestion. Only because your walkthrough, and sorry if I sound a bit rude, seemed a bit lacking in some areas. The flood in particular. My apologies for posting it again, I just thought I would through a few suggestions out there.

Edit: Just seen your edit Goodeye, I have removed the quote. Just so you know though, this was directed to your post pre-edit.

Hello.

Don't aplogize. It was far more detailed. Thanks for doing that. It should help out the community a bit better than mine (mine only really had a brief description of all the forums).

I was originally working on an FAQ, so maybe it will have some stuff to include here. I notice that mostly everything is pretty much listed, though.

Good job everyone.
