Hey guys, recently got a PM asking about BR tips, and thought I'd share it with you guys-
As far as getting accurate with the BR, it's going to come down to practice. If you dont get much time to play, it will obviously take you longer to get used to.
Try lowering your look sensitivity down 1 notch (ex: from 5 to 4). Everything will go slower, and you'll be able to control your crosshairs more accurately. After you do this a while, you'll feel that your crossharis simply aren't keeping up with the speed you want them at, and you'll increase your look sensitivity back up.
When you are looking for the 4-shot, always play by these rules: 3 in the body, 1 in the head. Shooting someone in the head for the first three shots does the same amount of shield damage as it would for three shots in the body. The body offers a bigger target as well, so that more rounds of the 3-shot burst hit the target. Once you've gotten the 3 shots in, go for the head. Remember to slightly "swipe" your crosshairs across their head. The BR has a wide spread, so it's easier to sort of "fan" them with the last shot than it is to get a dead-on hit.
Remember, there are many factors that go into a BR battle, and being able to 4-shot is not the only one. A buddy of mine on my team is better than me with the BR. I know it, he knows it. So in a straight fight, he'll win. How do I compensate? Use the other factors to my advantage. The biggest deciding factor in a BR battle is movement. Here's some tips:
When strafing back and forth (right, left, right, left), always try to change positions in between their shots, just before they take their shot. Subconsciously, they are following your pre-determined path, and changing it at the last second will increase your chances of them missing, or just landing 1 round of their 3 shot burst. Another good strafing technique is to simply stop. Nobody uses it, and I find it a huge advantage to have over someone. People expect you to walk back and forth, and will lead their shots accordingly, but in the middle of your strafe, suddenly stop moving. It will throw their shot off, allowing you to gain the advantage in the fight.
Another technique is the "Gandhi Jump." It was first introduced back in Halo: CE, and found it's proper place in MLG in Halo 2. Basically, the Gandhi jump is where you rapidly crouch and uncrouch in mid-air while jumping. This causes your head to move up and down, making it harder to get 4-shotted. Also, while not as present as in Halo 2, Gandhi jumping while near a low ceiling will cause your head to glitch into the ceiling, eliminating the possibility of getting a headshot on you. This also causes you to bounce up and down faster when propelling off a low ceiling.
When in close-quarters BR fights, keep this little trick in your back pocket- Crouch. Right in the middle of the fight, crouch. It will cause them to miss a shot, and change their crosshairs height, giving you an advantage.
Besides all that, all I can say is that practice makes perfect. Try playing BR only gametypes as much as possible. Using the AR too often can cause you to lose your developing BR capabilities. Remember: The Battle Rifle is an essential weapon in Halo. It is going to be the weapon you use most. For these reasons, you should try your best to develop it as best as possible.
