Bumper Jumper is the best Button Layout by far.

Why? You jump/strafe and BR simultaneously with no loss of accuracy. Plus running and dropping the flag is a lot easier with B than it is with RB.

If you're landing your shots, you've got half the battle finished. One of the videos I'm working on is about BR tactics, so be on the look out for that. When it comes to strafing, I'm the guy to go to. Back before my BR skills fully developed, I perfected my strafing.

A while ago, I couldn't 4 shot worth crap. I simply couldn't. I could land my shots, but I couldn't think to count to 3 and then shoot for the head. So, I broke the BR fight down. Half of the battle was shooting, the other half is strafing. If I couldn't 4 shot people, I was going to make sure they couldn't 4 shot me. Strafing is all about screwing with people's minds. In a BR fight, people get very tense, and it's easy to make a mistake. We need to exploit that. The best thing to do is to strafe to the other side IN BETWEEN his shots. Many people do it after they shoot. You should do it after your OPPONENT shoots.

A good strafing techniques include (each move is done during the time it takes to fire 1 shot)-

Left, Right, Right, Left - This makes it seem as though you are going to walk in a straight line, throwing off their last shot.

Now, switch that up with either a jump or a crouch as soon as you're going right, and you're golden.

When you are in the middle of a strafing fight where you are both going side to side, simply stop moving. Trust me. It throws people off so bad. They'll try their hardest to lead their shots, but there wont be any need.

Now, throw this next one in every so often, and people will think you're crazy-
Stay crouched the entire time you're strafing.

This is beyond helpful... I've been getting out BR'd way too often as well, the only reason I win fights is because i generally play it safer and outsmart an opponent rather than outskill them. I really feel like my awareness and such is the part of my game that needs the least work. My BR, snipe, and aggressiveness all need to be checked though. This certainly helps with BR tips, I'm gonna go into BR rectangle with a friend tomorrow and try all those tips out. Thank you very much. Now, to work on my aggressiveness... (can't seem to figure out when to chase, push up etc!)

Great tips Shadow!

I'm a level 39 in LW and cant seem to brake through to become a Colonel... One thing I can say is that if you get angry with a match take a brake after it and try playing some social to calm down. At levels like this I find its easy to get pissed off (especially with the kill stealing out there and its easy to lose control...

I can personally say thats a grave danger, I recently lost it (long day + a couple of bad rounds of LW) and fell down to a 36 for a while...

After reading you're guide I started doing some DP instead of LW, and I have to agree, its much easier to level up! I'm already a 30 and my partner is a 23...

Can I ask you a tip, though? On the Pit, it seems its quite easy to fall into a rut. One time, my partner and I split up to get the power weapons at the beginning of the match. (bad move in hindsight) . He died to the rocket guy, and I was soon picked off by an invisible shotgunner...

Anyways, after that the team moved towards the sword spawn and started camping in the area. My friend and I tried to push them out with frags and explosives but they had a very strong position. One of them crouched with the shotgun and the other stayed in the corner with the rocket. We tried crouch walking around corners, doing "stick runs" ( we were able to stick the shotgunner a couple times but the rocketeer always blasted us afterwards)

Anyways to make a long story short those guys held their position till around 7-17 kills when we finally lucked out with some sticks. By then they the round was already won by them so we couldn't do much to change the tide...

What would you have done in such a situation?

By the way, I'd love to read your ebook if you'd be willing to send it...

i might not be a 50 but if i was in that game i would wait and get the power weapons when they respawned then crouch walk in to the room and trow a sticky by the space in the upper part of the room and pull back as they have the power weapons to they should get cocky and rush you then you pull off your power weapon to and finnish the job

For the 39 LW guy - when people camp in sword room, especially given that they have rockets and a shotgun, you're going to have to sacrifice some kills to get them out of there. I personally would nades the room like crazy with 2 frags and 2 stickies, and one person would have crouched over to their sword side and thrown some nades down that side. Then I would have ONE person crouch out and try to make the rocket guy shoot 2 rockets. He'd be reloading, and both would *most likely* be weak from nades. I think one person could get a kill. Your dead person would respawn quicker and most likely a legitimate fight for blue room would ensue.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. Getting a person out of blue room on normal Bungie variants can be difficult, since the sword is there, rockets are devestating in there, and shotguns are as well. It takes a bit of luck.

Good strategies. I'll tell you what I do, and it seems to work almost all the time. As I'm an avid Team Doubles player, Sword Room becomes a common place to hold, and you effectively can with such a small team.

What I usually do, is grab a Mauler/Plasma Rifle combo, which are conveniently both to your side, one at the end of the Sword room, one at the corner of Training. From there, I'd crouch against the wall going into Sword room with those weapons, and then I would have a teammate down on Runway (the long strip of ground where Overshield spawns), and he would crouch up till he is right below me, hugging the wall closest to me. From there, he would uncrouch, run slightly to the side, seemingly coming around the corner, and run forward towards Overshield.

Due to the overlapping Motion Sensor range, it will appear as though you are charging, at that moment, they will most likely shoot their rocket/throw grenades. Now, they'll see they messed up, and reload. Listen for that (headsets help you listen), and then charge in, and get their shields gone in a second thanks to the Plasma Rifle, and then finish it with a mauler.

You should be able to also Mauler/melee the second guy. If the second guy has sword, backpedal and use the PR/Mauler combo though. I usually have my buddy going up their Sword Ramp, and throwing grenades in through the top at that point.

As for the Ebook, it's been put on the shelf till I can find some time to work on it and finish it.

It all comes down to preference. Professional players play within the 3-5 range. I warm up on 5, and then go down to 4 when I start playing. It makes it seem like things go slower when I warm up at a higher sensitivity. It also helps me controll my BR.

As for the dark- No. It's good to shade your TV from light to give yourself a better picture and to reduce glare, but try to have some lights in the back of your room or something. If the only light you're getting is from your screen, your eyes will get strained and hurt.

As for the music, sure, it will get you pumped, but it will distract you from the game sounds, which are more important. I'd say listen to it while warming up, but when it comes to ranked time, turn it off.

That's interesting. Usually I just warmup on all my preferred settings. Maybe I should turn the sensitivity up for a few custom games and then reduce it again when I get online. I'll try it and see if it steadies my aim a little. There's nothing worse than having an easy Sniper shot lined up only to lose contorl just as you pull the trigger and for the shot to go wild.

Also, how do you recommend warming up if you've got nobody to get into a custom game? Previously I'd run through Floodgate on Mythic trying to kill everything quickly to get my aim calibrated properly. Other than playing Social Slayer which is boring as hell without co-operative team mates *cough*guests*cough* I can't really see what to do.

I've been getting a lot of comments about that. It's not really that hard. I make about $300 a week, which anyone can do. I'm a waiter at Ruby Tuesdays, which brings in between $80-$100 a night, and then I also work at GameStop, which is crap money, but a fun job.

My screen I use cost me $200. The headset and mixamp cost $250 together. That's really all you need. If your talking about my 42", I got that for around $500 on Black Friday last year.

I actually made this custom game/map variant to help me warm up... it's on Guardian, and it helps you warm up your grenade throws, grenade bounces, and shooting explosive canisers (both stationary and moving). I can try to put that up in my fileshare when I get a chance to jump on my xbox. Other than that, Social Slayer. I just concentrate on finding a BR, and only using that.

Continued Original Post

Your Xbox Setup

[quote]Well, now it's time to start looking at your actual gaming setup. Do you use an HD TV? What kind? Are you using the best video cords and settings? This is where we're going to go over that.

You're going to want a good station to play your games at that will give you the best overall gaming ability. First thing's first. Your screen. What kind of screen are you using? If you are using an HD tv, your TV has video lag. Sry. Now, you're going to look into getting rid of this. First off, you're going to try to get VGA Cables. For those who are unfamiliar, these cables are similar to those found from your Computer to your Monitor. These cables are going to help your refresh rate. Before you buy them, make sure your TV has a VGA input. Almost all new LCD, DLP, and Plasma flat screens have them.

Now, let's hook you up with a sweet screen. You're going to look for a screen that has a 22 inch widescreen display. This is the perfect size to show you everything you need, and isn't too big where as you have to actually look around to see the whole screen. The most important aspect to this is SCREEN DELAY. You're going to look for something that has a 5ms or less screen delay. If it doesn't have it, move along. You can find better. If you can, find a screen that will support 1680x1050 display. MLG uses a Viewsonic.

Wow, for some reason I always knew that playing off of my Samsung 22" Monitor gave me an advantage and my Turtle Beach X3 (a poor man's version of MLG headphones) gave me an advantage. Had to stop playing off of my monitor because I would be twitchy the next day and really twitchy after a couple weeks of gaming for long hours.
