Hey, well here is a quick question for you. I have been going for a 50 ever since I got my 46 in Team Doubles. I would win two, and then I would lose one, so I just stopped playing for a little while. Also, my team-mate that I went in with was a terrible slayer, so we would only win the objective gametypes, therefore causing a rather annoying predicament of winning games, just to lose the next game we play because it was a Team BRs. Then I heard, that maybe Team Slayer would be easier to rank up in.

So, I went into Team Slayer, and worked my way up from a 40 all the way to a 46. Once I was a 46, I won 7 games in a row, without ranking up at all. This pissed me off a little, because the next game, my whole team quit out, and I lost. So, I went for that long streak again, and I won 6 games in a row, and still no rank up. So, I lost the next game, got pissed and now, I only play Team Slayer occasionally.

I also, have two rather high ranks in other playlists. I am a 45 in Lone Wolves and Team Snipers. I haven't played them as much as the others, but I can still hold my own in these playlists. Oh, and by the way, I am also a 40 in MLG, but I don't consider that an option for my first 50.

This is my very first account that I have ever had on XBL, and I want to find a way to get a 50. In summary, my ranks consist of 46 in Team Slayer and Team Doubles, and a 45 in Lone Wolves and Team Snipers. On a side note, I go into all of these playlists on my own. I hardly ever go in with a team, or just a partner. I usually lose when I do, so I just tend to go in alone.

Finally, after that long wall of text, here is my question. What should I go for my 50 in? . All these playlists, except sometimes Snipers and Lone Wolves, it seems like I am rank locked. I know that it isn't true, I just know that my sigma or whatever is just sort of stuck in the 46 area.

Thank you for your time,

JTuck

I checked the response time on my 37" HDTV, and it came in at 8 ms. But I use just regular HD component cables. Does anyone know if my response time would increase if I switched to VGA or HDMI? How much? Is VGA faster than HDMI?

Also, my computer monitor is a 22" LCD with a 5 ms response time (1680 x 1050). Do you think I'd be much better off playing on that?

I already have a headset, Turltebeach, but I only have wireless controllers. How much of a difference am I going to get if I drop the cash on a wired? Is it even worth it?

Help from anyone's appreciated. I just started playing Halo 3 Live nine days ago. I've managed to get to level 40 (Captain) in Lone Wolves, but I'm having trouble getting higher. I have some crazy connection issues where I go red-bar in probably 25% of my games. Since I live in a family home, I get screwed every time someone goes on the computer -- which is a lot, and often halfway into one of my matches when I'm fighting for the lead.

It gets very frustrating, to say the least, which makes me play even worse.

I'd go with the 22". Even though your 37" looks pretty, it's hosting some funky display resolutions. 1366x768? No way. Also, if you're using VGA, your refresh rate will improve. It may take a while to switch and get used to it, but going to the 22" will help in the long run. Just make sure you're sitting so that your eyes are mid-screen, and that you're feet are firmly planted flat, and that your knees are at right angles. No putting your feet on the chair legs. If you're legs are bent wierd, it's time to raise or lower that seat.

As for your headset, that's fine for now. Any kind of headphone is an improvement over speakers. But as you start playing more, start setting aside a little bit of money to make the purchase and switch over to something a bit supperior.

As with the controller, not too big a deal as far as personal use goes. Wired controllers are required for LAN events simply because they're not letting dead batteries be an excuse to restart a match. One thing I really like is that the wired controller is a lot lighter, so it seems as though my wrists dont get worn out as easily after long periods of gaming. Hell, I even opened up my controller and took out the vibration motors to reduce weight. But the wireless delay isn't something you should definitely run out and throw down $40 to fix. That $40 could be towards a new headset.

Now, your connection is your main key. You can have an amazing 22" LCD with 60,000:1 ratio with 1680x1050 display, using VGA cables, using A40 audio system, brand new xbox with Jasper processor, and a newly opened wired controller, but you're going to still come dead last if your connection is bad. Try going to your ISP and ask about upgrading your internet service. You shouldn't have a problem with people being on the computer. The only thing done on a computer that should cause you lag is if they're downloading a Torrent. When you go in, ask about any special promotions. Right now, Comcast is upgrading anyone's service to the 18Mbps download for a year for free. Usually the people there dont care, and just want to make you happy, so they'll throw in free channels, etc. Also, are you using a wired connection? If you are, be sure to be using CAT6 ethernet cables. Also, try opening your NAT and port forwarding your Xbox. It'll help.

The Halo 3 timer thing.... You have to pay for it?

Yes, it is $5, but if you're new to timing weapon spawns, it's definitely helpful.

There is also a good guide over at www.prohalotips.com which is made by professional players from Team Classic. It's got some good videos and tips that really help.

how did you access your guide from team classic, and how long did it take you to get it, if you bought it?

I just bought this recently via PayPal. I received the password to the ebook about 2 days later. Its definitely good material.

I'm supprised it took that long. Usually only an hour or so. If you run into problems, their AIM is-

ProHaloTips

so you can IM them and ask whats the problem.

You certainly dont need any of this stuff. Lots of people are perfectly fine with what they've got. However, I still want to know how having the things that I do makes me rich? I swear. Ever since I made that video, people just say "oh, I'm not loaded." "you're just rich", etc. Has no one heard of a job? $300 a week isn't hard to come by, and it's not like I acquired all my things all at once. I dont know what you mean by "no wonder you're always happy." Do I come off as happy?

343 will save us

I've played Halo 3 since day one, and only a few weeks ago did i get my 50 on my first account (the only one i've ever used).
None of your tips helped me get there though, I got there myself slowly but surely.
I was once a Colonel g3 and Brig Gen. but I got there anyways, proving most anyone can do it.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Dont worry about it bro. There will always be the few people that cant accept the fact that your going out of your own way to help other people. 9/10 times the majority will thank you for it.

Yes it is possible to do it on your own. BUT he is trying to help others so they dont have to. I did it on my own as well, it wasnt fun going in TS alone all the way to 50.

Not all of callouts are up there. I got too lazy and bored. But most of them are up. In fact, all of them except for Amplified and Onslaught.

Yeah, I know. But I get lots of PM's from people who will tell me their story about when they started using my tips, and what they learned, and how it helped them. Nothing makes me happier than hearing the stories of people who've reached 50, and I'm glad to hear that I could have helped out in the tiniest way. On the other hand, I realize that this guide isn't for everyone.

Haven't really seen em around. But, it is by SteelSeries, and they do make quality products. I'd just look around for reviews online.

Tell you what, I'll review them. If they suck, I can return them and get my money back anyway.

Siberia rocks though so neckband should be good too.

my tip to you is to go into any playlist you have a 45 or higher in and try to rank up. you seem good enough to be a 50. I would try for slayer first, because if you get a bad teammate in dubs you're screwed.

Well, thanks for the advice. You see, when I go into Team Slayer, I get these really good winning streaks going, about 6 or 7 games in a row, but then, I lose one game, and it just about makes me start all over again. As you can see, here, I was on a rather good winning streak, just to lose one silly game where I carried, sort of, my team. It sometimes feels like the ranking system just doesn't want me to get a 47+. But thanks about saying that I look good enough to be a 50. You also look like you could get the General Rank. If you ever feel like playing Team Slayer, or whatever you are high in, hit me up sometime on XBL.

Thanks

These stories keep me motivated. Always glad to see someone with bars make it to 50. I play every day in MLG trying to just get better, improve my BR, communication, sniper, mental game and prove something to myself. I've gotten to 40 there. There are just those days (like today) where you find yourself not going insanely negative per se (I usually don't), but you lose 1v1s and fail to capitalize, or your snipe is just plain off. I think it has a lot to do with your attitude/what's going on OUTSIDE of the game. A mind free of worry tends to means success for me.

Elvin - I'll hit you up sometime for either some doubles (46) slayer (40) MLG (40) or something else.

Great tips but do you have any tips for Team snipers? Im a 49 in snipers and im just 2-3 games away from my 50 and i'm really nervous. I have a 2nd teammate who's good at snipers and my 3rd teamate isn't so great at snipers so i need somebody who's really good at sniping to play 2-3 games with me. (Warning: You will be facing alot of 50's in snipers if you play with me)

People say that you rank up easier when playing alone.

Hey, do you think you could do i guide/ vid or something focusing on weapons? For some reason i just can't seem to get my BR back to what it was before i got the RRoD. That and sniper help, something alot of people would like. So, if you do something like that,, it'll be much appreciated. Oh, and thanks for the LW tips.
