I checked the response time on my 37" HDTV, and it came in at 8 ms. But I use just regular HD component cables. Does anyone know if my response time would increase if I switched to VGA or HDMI? How much? Is VGA faster than HDMI?
Also, my computer monitor is a 22" LCD with a 5 ms response time (1680 x 1050). Do you think I'd be much better off playing on that?
I already have a headset, Turltebeach, but I only have wireless controllers. How much of a difference am I going to get if I drop the cash on a wired? Is it even worth it?
Help from anyone's appreciated. I just started playing Halo 3 Live nine days ago. I've managed to get to level 40 (Captain) in Lone Wolves, but I'm having trouble getting higher. I have some crazy connection issues where I go red-bar in probably 25% of my games. Since I live in a family home, I get screwed every time someone goes on the computer -- which is a lot, and often halfway into one of my matches when I'm fighting for the lead.
It gets very frustrating, to say the least, which makes me play even worse.
I'd go with the 22". Even though your 37" looks pretty, it's hosting some funky display resolutions. 1366x768? No way. Also, if you're using VGA, your refresh rate will improve. It may take a while to switch and get used to it, but going to the 22" will help in the long run. Just make sure you're sitting so that your eyes are mid-screen, and that you're feet are firmly planted flat, and that your knees are at right angles. No putting your feet on the chair legs. If you're legs are bent wierd, it's time to raise or lower that seat.
As for your headset, that's fine for now. Any kind of headphone is an improvement over speakers. But as you start playing more, start setting aside a little bit of money to make the purchase and switch over to something a bit supperior.
As with the controller, not too big a deal as far as personal use goes. Wired controllers are required for LAN events simply because they're not letting dead batteries be an excuse to restart a match. One thing I really like is that the wired controller is a lot lighter, so it seems as though my wrists dont get worn out as easily after long periods of gaming. Hell, I even opened up my controller and took out the vibration motors to reduce weight. But the wireless delay isn't something you should definitely run out and throw down $40 to fix. That $40 could be towards a new headset.
Now, your connection is your main key. You can have an amazing 22" LCD with 60,000:1 ratio with 1680x1050 display, using VGA cables, using A40 audio system, brand new xbox with Jasper processor, and a newly opened wired controller, but you're going to still come dead last if your connection is bad. Try going to your ISP and ask about upgrading your internet service. You shouldn't have a problem with people being on the computer. The only thing done on a computer that should cause you lag is if they're downloading a Torrent. When you go in, ask about any special promotions. Right now, Comcast is upgrading anyone's service to the 18Mbps download for a year for free. Usually the people there dont care, and just want to make you happy, so they'll throw in free channels, etc. Also, are you using a wired connection? If you are, be sure to be using CAT6 ethernet cables. Also, try opening your NAT and port forwarding your Xbox. It'll help.

The Halo 3 timer thing.... You have to pay for it?
Yes, it is $5, but if you're new to timing weapon spawns, it's definitely helpful.

There is also a good guide over at www.prohalotips.com which is made by professional players from Team Classic. It's got some good videos and tips that really help.
how did you access your guide from team classic, and how long did it take you to get it, if you bought it?
I just bought this recently via PayPal. I received the password to the ebook about 2 days later. Its definitely good material.
I'm supprised it took that long. Usually only an hour or so. If you run into problems, their AIM is-
ProHaloTips
so you can IM them and ask whats the problem.
