@UncivilAuto- there are no such things as modding and hacking in Halo 3. A modified console is immediately banned from Xbox LIVE. The only form of modification that hasn't been completely dealt with is Achievement Modding, which is Client-Side anyway. This means that while if you look at their profile in the game, Bungie.net and Xbox.com will show you that they do not in fact have such achievements. Those players will also be unable to unlock things such as Recon Armor, so really, what is more important? A cool new feature to unlock and play with, or a number that is blown out of proportion to have anybody care about anyway? I myself play a lot during the night simply because that's when lots of younger players have gone to bed, leaving me with older gamers to play against, and thus, a tougher challenge (OPINION).

There may not be any hacking and modding of a serious level, but there is definitely network manipulation; particularly at high levels (even more particularly in Squad battle if the reports from other players are to be believed) as you'll probably know.

Also, check your PMs. It seems that Autoresponders prevent your new messages from showing up and it's been a couple of weeks or so since I PMed you. :-(

EDIT: Oh, and while I remember, I recently earned my 3rd 40 in LW this time. Not particularly impressive, I know, but it shows that I'm doing something rght despite the frustrating length of winstreaks I need to produce to move up in the system. Learning to hang back and manipulate the scores is a nice little trick, although Oddball sucks in FFA setting IMO.

get a good partner for team slayer who is around 35ish in the playlist, this way you wont get many playlist 50s (hopefully) and your playing guys lower rank than u, it will take more games but is easier in my opinion.

Remember me I just got my 40 last night so any tips for getting to lvl 45?

  • 11.23.2009 12:52 PM PDT

If you fail on your first attempt, try cheating

does quitting out of a game in LW do you any good. I won 5 games in a row, played with beasts on the next and quit out after 2 min when i was down by 13 kills, won the next and ranked up

Yes, I forgot to go over network manipulation. It is an issue, but it is an issue with every game, not just Halo 3. Bungie and Microsoft can try to do what they can, but it is a flaw with hardware. However, network manipulation, such as "lag switches," are much rarer occasions than people believe. If it appears to happen quite often, chances are that it is an issue with YOUR connection. Take it up with your ISP, and try to find a solution.

Yeah, I just read through my massively annoying inbox and found your message. I'll respond very soon.

Nice job on the 40! Hey, if you're still moving up this late in the game, then that means you're improving tons. I love hanging back and grabbing points. I think my favorite thing is Crazy King on Guardian. I'll grab Camo at the beginning and just crouch up against the side of top mid and grab the 20 seconds or so for free :)

It has been a theory that 50's have a better connection, and it may be true, but let's look at the reasons why:

1) They pay for the better internet, so they'll host, and thus the game will be more stable overall.
2) If two players of absolute equal skill went up against eachother, but one had a bad connection, then obviously the player with the better connection will win.
3) It appears as though connection speeds do hold back a lot of potential players from reaching their 50.

Overall, it just shows that players who have the good connection, and the ability to get a 50 will get it. Some players who have the ability, but not the connection, will suffer and not always reach their goal.

However, this should never be an excuse. I hate nothing more than the other team saying "NICE HOST!" at the end of a match. Hey, someone's got to have it, right? Looks like I had the best connection, and thus I was able to create the most stable game. If they want host so bad, then they should dish out the cash for a better connection, or just shut up all together.

I personally have Comcast, and I have their fastest internet connection speed available in my area, which is getting me roughly a 28 mb/s download, 3 mb/s upload, with ~50ms ping.

Go to www.speedtest.net to test your connection speed. Note: multiple devices (computers, gaming systems, etc. plugged into your router will affect speed.

Stop by your ISP and ask about upgrades and special offers going on for your internet connection. I stopped by one day and got a deal to be upgraded to the fastest connection for a year for free. Also, be sure to keep updated and current hardware, such as routers and modems. If you want, also use CAT6 ethernet cables, but be sure to use them on both MODEM-ROUTER and ROUTER-XBOX.

Quitting does nothing but lower your EXP. Quitting puts you down as a LOSS. That's it. The game only cares about WINS and LOSSES. It doesn't care about how close it was, who had the most kills, most medals, best spread, who was MVP, or if you didn't stay the whole match. It's either WIN, or LOSE.

In your case, it looks like you were close to ranking up before the previous match, and then you were matched up against players that the game EXPECTED you to lose against, so since you quit, it counted as a LOSS, but it didn't hurt you too much. Then, when you won the next game, you got that little boost to rank up.

I haven't been cheated often as far as I can tell, but I do tend to lag a bit but I already know my connection is awful (371kbps down and up as I type this) and can't be improved due to my location. Unfortunately, in the UK internet speeds are only just starting to become important to people and when there's no demand, there's no supply or plans of supply which means only people in cities get cable etc and the rest of us are stuck using our phone lines.

Yeah, I just read through my massively annoying inbox and found your message. I'll respond very soon.

I got a killing Frenzy in my first life on Guardian Slayer due to nabbing the Camo, BR and Hammer off my 1st spawn before moving up to S2 and destroying everyone. Heck, we should play together again sometime and then you can judge first hand if I've improved or not (I'd feel comfortable going for a 45 if I could find team mates who are around the same level or actually want to play).

Start off by saying your thread is good, helps alot of people etc.

BUT, I'm an English player with 3 50's, you know how damn hard it was to earn these? Regardless of my internet speed if more than 3 players in the game are American, which is 95/100 games, I will not pull host and have to play on yours, which is horrendous most of the time.

You really can't tell people who moan about host to shut up if they aren't from the USA, you have a huge advantage considering pretty much every game the "most stable" connection WILL be American.

I agree with mrziggles. A lot of Americans don't realise that their host is great for most other Americans but can screw everyone else over bigstyle. Unfortunately non-American hosts screw the Americans up too, and even more unfortunately in this aspect there isn't a continental or country based search filter. Such a thing, if implemented would help stop many American/European/Australian host arguments as everyone could (in theory) play on a host native to them.

I'll keep dreaming lol.

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

Network manipulation is not a hardware flaw, its a fundamental flaw in the current matchmaking concept. Games do not take place over dedicated servers, they are hosted over a player's xbox via NAT setup, granting the ability for cheaters to find a player's ip address and packet flood them until their connection is too backed up to continue to send packets in the game, which boots them.

If you fail on your first attempt, try cheating

If your trying to reach your 50 and keep on getting bad lag then find a different time to play. I live in Asia and my night time when i normally play is terrible because i play pros and dont have host. In my morning I play noobs and dont have host, but i can still wreck them. In ranked matches I only try to rank up on a real playlist in the morning

Thought I'd take a moment of everyone's time, and let them in on a little secret...

I've got a little supprise planned for this thread as it reaches it's 50th page. (My Tips To Reach 50 and 50th page? See what I did thar?).

My only hope is that posts slow down a bit so I have more time to finish!

Interesting, onwards to page 50!

Silliness aside, is it the project you were working on a few months ago finally being resurrected? I was always interested to see how that turned out.

*(sigh)*

I just can't believe people would read bull**** like this. You can give tips about halo, but seriously? The main post is like a page from a book! I mean I just can't stand the fact that people would waste 15 minutes of their life to read this and say "hey thanks man!" I mean come on ! You know what my tips are? It is so simple even a 10 year old little boy living in a cardboard box would know this! All you have to do is PLAY THE GAME. Who cares if you are only level 5 and your friend is a general. What matters is the fact that you had fun and appreciate the fact that "hey, I dont have to be good at this game. I should just go at my own pace and not worry about being good." I mean being level 50 is just a title.Merely a coating over the skills and abilities a person has. I am not a level 50 and not even close to getting there, but I still play halo 3 to have fun (and for achievements [=). So you know what? Just play the game to have fun and don't waste your entire life playing lone wolves to get some stupid title. You know what they say: never judge a book by its cover. (if you are reading all this crap, you are a ****ing moron because look who just wasted 10 minutes of your life!)

Knowledge is power.
The more you learn as a player the more you can apply that knowledge thus increasing your options. More options allow for more fun and adaptable gameplay as well as increasing one's winning percentage. We all like to win, or at least perform well individually if victory is not possible, yet that doesn't mean that you should just not try.
I'm incredibly laid back and don't get competitive at all, that, however doesn't mean that I find losing enjoyable; yes sometimes you get a great game which is really close that everyone enjoys, but you also get games in which you get dominated by the other team which often isn't enjoyable at all. Therefore reducing the chances of being utterly destroyed by unknown circumstances or plays is good for extending the longevity of the game.

Besides, most people don't read because they're just plain lazy, there is some good information in this thread and it's well set out and easy to read which makes it accessable to a wider reader base.

Also, reading is never a waste of time unless you garner neither enjoyment nor education from it.

Were it so easy.

Ok, I just saw your video and the stuff you said makes a small impact on how well you play, except for the timers for MLG games. When your playing it is not going to matter if you have an expense headset or a good TV, what matters is how good you are.
