Great summary of the current state of the game.
Especially in regards to the female gamers, they tend to be like this in most online games, but ugh.. have some dignity.

But I feel you missed a rather important group of players.

Just earlier I was playing a few rounds and I'm a rather casual player, just playing online to have a bit of fun. But there was one capture the flag match where most of my team was disconnected, leaving two of us on our own against a group of four guys with similar soundind gamertags and emblems, clearly part of some kind of clan.

The two of decided to just mess around a little and have a bit of fun, where as the other team formed a massive defensive block in the base. Someone sniping ontop the tower, someone with a spartan laser/rocket launcher and the other two charging us with BRs/shotguns.

Absolutely ridiculous to see them playing so seriously against a severely handicapped oppenent. Does no one play the game just to enjoy themselves anymore, does it ALWAYS have to be about winning?

I understand where you're coming from. It must not have been very enjoyably playing against those kind of players. However, as much as I would like to berate them for how they play, I must say that I have been guilty of the same thing. Even though I am unaware of their intentions, I can describe to you what I did in similar circumstances.

When it comes down to a game such as that, it is obvious that opposition is going to be light, and thus the competitive level has gone down substantially. Thus, for me, the desire to win has died down, and the desire to take advantage of the situation and practice has risen.

In these situations, my team and I would practice anything from setups to weapon spawn timing to predicting spawns. With a smaller amount of people, it is easier to concentrate and communicate. The speed of the game slows down. It's like learning to drive- you don't fly down the street at 70mph. You start out going 20mph or 30mph and slowly move up. You then develop skills such as using turn signal, coming to a complete stop before moving, checking your surroundings, etc. The point is, it's much easier to learn and practice at a slower pace. When it's slow, I my team may try to practice defensive setups and such.

What will really determine the type of player that you're up against will be how he acts at the end of the game. If he says "good game" or apologizes for your teammates leaving, then know that he was just trying to make the best of the type of game he was in. If he insults you and acts all big and tough, don't fret; he's only fooling himself.

In conclusion, those types of games are rough, but we have to choose how to handle them. Some people use it as a time to practice. Some people like to end it quickly so each side can move on to another game. Some people like to just kill over and over and make the other side have a bad time. With a game as late in it's life as Halo 3 is, these types of games are popping up more and more. In those situations, the only advice I can give you is to just try your best and see where it gets you. I've seen many different sides of the spectrum. I've seen the smaller team hide. I've seen them quit. I've seen them stand still. I've seen them screw around all game. I've seen it all.

However, the most pleasing wins are those when you're up against impossible odds. Nothing is as big a moral boost as when you win when you have less people. Just know that in these instances, you have to rely on teamwork more than anything else. Play the numbers game. 2 on 1 will almost always end in your favor. However, if you're just in it for the fun, you have to make it what you want. I find teamwork and seeing a plan go well fun. Perhaps you might find holding out at a higher ground against opponents enjoyable. Perhaps you find getting funny splatters fun.

I don't know, but that's the point of this whole post. Everyone has fun a different way. We just have to ignore the jerks and keep playing on. Each game is like a game of poker. You have to play with the cards you're dealt. You can either fold and throw in your chips, or you can ride it out and hope something amazing happens.

Hey Shadow, I haven't played Halo in a while, but I'd like to start it up again, and go for the gold. I LOVE MLG settings, but I'm not too good with a sniper, which plays a big part. So, do you have any tips for the snipe, and for find a team I could play with/practice with. I know alot of teams are looking for recruits on gamebattles and what not, but I'm not MLG 45+ material here. I'm a 20 in the playlist, but I've no doubt that'd go up if I had a team to play with who communicate and play well. All my friends who have talked about putting together a team don't really take it as seriously as I do, which is frustrating.

No offense dude but gamestop sux Im so lucky to have a locally owned and operated GAME-OVER. Game stop is HUGE yet still have crappy trade in value I get well over 25% more at GAME-OVER opposed to Game Stop and get get used game deals and dont have to pay for some edge membership.Hopefully one day owner of game over will expand beyond the 3 local shops he owns now and brings the great deals to the rest of the world not to mention GAME OVER accepts trade ins on all game consoles like from ATARI Nintendo Xbox it doesn't matter if its a game you can trade it or even buy it.But yeah like I said No Offense but I feel like Game Stop just steals from my backpocket.

Really nice thread. You say you won't carry any people, i think this is good, cuz if you earn a 50 yourself your happier with it then when someone just carries you all the way.
The information in the thread is good as well. First do lonewolfs then doubles.

Reach will not have a full map editor.

What is Reach 50, do you mean Level 50, like in one playlist for the Rogue helment? WHY IS EVERYONE SO OVERHEADED ABOUT LVL 50?

It's his tips to help you guys make it a Rank 50 in Halo 3. Most people want a 50 So that once they reach a 50, they can start chilling in Social or Double EXP weekend. Some people want it for bragging rights or to look good.

for t3h lulz

I have to disagree about getting mad and using rushing tactics. Rushing has actually worked for me a lot. One time, I was playing on Team Slayer on The Pit, and kept getting killed by snipers, sword-carriers, shotgunners, and kept getting caught in BR crossfire against multiple well-coordinated, skilled enemies.

Well, what did I do but get really mad. I went for either the plasma rifles or SMGS every life, and I went crazy, raining pure pain down on the enemy players. I still died several times, and we lost the game, but I got about two kills per life once I got mad. (Not too great, but better than had been doing before.)

I'm saying, if you get mad, channel that anger into giving you more focus, accuracy, and determination - that's what I do if I get mad.

This is coming from a not very skilled player though, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm not very qualified to give advice considering my low skill level.

"Drastic measures will be taken."

First post on Bungie forums ever, finally broke down and got live about 8 months ago. I'm a huge fan of the halo series and I've been playing since everyone in my freshman dorm got me hooked on halo 1 back in 2002.

Just wanted to say Kamikaze makes a really good point. It takes enough dedication to check your own e-mail every week, so I can only imagine how much dedication it takes to stick with a forum discussion for over two years. As one halo fan to another, thanks for giving tips to people and taking the time to reply.

Hey, I'd just like to announce that I'm starting yet another sub-series to my "My Tips To Reach 50!" video series. They are called "Gamplay" videos. As you'd expect, they're straight first-person videos from beginning to end of matches I play. Some I will narrate, and some I'll just post the video. Hopefully you guys can grab something from them. If I could suggest anything, it would be to note how I start off each map in each gametype. Subscribe to my YouTube channel to get constant updates.

I just prefer a snazzy and catchy title. I guess I could have named it "My Tips To Help You Get Better At Halo" but that's kinda long and not very memorable. At least I've got a unique name people can remember.

True, getting angry does release more adrenaline into the body, and thus granting further focus. I'm just aiming that point at people who get pissed at dying, and decide running solo at 2 people at once just because they're upset wont do the job. Sure, you may get lucky and grab a kill going 1v2, but chances are, unless you go clutch, you're not going to kill both, and going 1 for 1 when you are losing doesn't help.

Welcome to the Bungie forums! Glad you decided to break the ice here. Yeah, it's been a blast keeping up with the thread. It's because of it's followers that it was pinned under Top Forum Topics, and thus has given me a great fan base to give ideas to, not to mention it's allowed me to get some cool stuff thrown my way. Keeping up with the questions and such is just my way of saying thanks. The only part that's unfortunate is the sheer number of requests I receive to have people play with me. Although I'd love to meet my fans, and see if I could help them further, if I play with one, I've got to play with them all, and that doesn't leave any ME time. I held a "Community Play Day" a while back, and I got a good number of people that night, and I've been thinking about doing that again. The only downside was that I got some people who didn't really like me in there, and they spent the day talking trash about me and my videos. Didn't create too great an atmosphere. Oh well, guess I gotta take the bad with the good.

Prolly has been mentioned already.... but if anyone listens to tsquareds advice on standoff, where the hog and laser aren't mentioned, gl winning that game. Not bashing his mlg skill, just bashing his TS/SB/BTB strats. Camo and rockets aren't the reason people win, its generally a smart hog driver with a laser as support...

Just something i noticed. On construct in Team slayer, i hardly see the sniper being used effectively. I can easily imagine a strat where the sniper is on the sniper bridge with the bubble, two teammates in each purple and a player in lobby supporting. This set-up has been working great for me in Matchmaking, but i see more people going for the sword than the sniper, which i personally dont see the advantage of as sniper enables much greater map control than sword, which can easily be taken down by Team BR's. Also, hardly anyone seems to use the "staircase" to sword, very useful if people are camping on Top gold, or either purple lift.
