Well I haven't been playing Xbox much anymore lately, so I was unhappy to find my aiming skills virtually gone when I tried playing Halo 3 again after about two weeks of hardly ever playing it. Normally, when I don't play for awhile I'll miraculously gain a new skill in the game I never had before - like better aim with a certain kind of weapon.
Now, I could blame my epic failures as of late on any number of things other than myself, but I'm not going to nerd rage about people being cheap - it was just me. I usually play with a sensitivity of 5, so maybe thats it. My aim's been really clumsy and jerky lately.
I only ever got to skill 35 - so I'm pretty much a mediocre player, as always. I win an average of 1 out of every 4 games, I think, and the majority of what I play is team games.
Now, in the last couple of months I've just noticed my skills in halo just slipping away. I used to be a decent player who got an amazing kill once in awhile. But that was back during the times when I actually got mad when playing Halo.
I don't let the game get me angry anymore, which I think is why I've gotten progressively worse and worse at the game in the last couple of months. I play casually now, instead of competitively - and I think that's where the problem lies.
As crazy as it sounds, I think I actually played better when I got mad. I would convince myself delusionally that the enemy team is super cheap and then I'd go on an angry rampage that would make our team win.
I think the reason that getting angry can help is that it gives you greater focus. You play more aggressively, shoving your way through the enemy team with a noobish weapon like an AR and somehow winning.
I just can't seem to get angry at Halo anymore, so I'm just going negative in K/D score all the time now, losing every single game, getting constant accidental betrayals, etc, etc. It's like my noob days have started all over again.
I tried doing some target practice on guardian with a BR on the birds flying around to get my aiming skills back - 1 out of every 12 shots hit a bird. I used to get 1 out of every 3.
Ironically, nerd rage can be a good thing.
I look forward to reach, because it seems like there was more strategy in the beta. New weapons with a different feeling to them - it was very refreshing to play. Perhaps another reason I'm playing horribly now in Halo 3 is because its gotten really repetitive. I don't expect I'll ever get a 50.
