Subject: Herioc Map Pack... Is it Free soon?

It's what everybody wants to have. Standoff, a great slayer map. Foundry, the ultimate forge map. Plus Rats Nest, the bonus map that just looks flat out cool. But the only problem that stands between me and those maps is those pesty 800 points. For months I've been feverishly waiting for these maps to be announced as free. Yet so far... nothing, not a thing! So my question to all of you is when?... When will these maps be free? Is it this month, week? Or is it being realesed next month at the start of the Spring season? Are any of these right at all? I'm clueless, so if you know for sure please tell me. Thanks alot!

My guess is that they will be released for freeloaders (sorry, had to say it) when the Legendary Map Pack is released.

Seems reasonable to me.

*Hears the word "Freeloaders"*

Did someone call me?

J/K Seriously though, for H2 when the next round of maps came out, the older ones were made free, but that was then. I think now with the marketplace and all, that NO maps will be free. Maybe not necessarily Bungie's fault, but still, I don't think they will be free. Even XBLA games went UP in price once they saw that people were buying them. They used to be about 400 points, now they're 800.

It makes sense that they would be made free as soon as the second map pack was made available--when that happens, it means that the previous pack is officially old.

That said, no one actually knows.

Bungie has already stated that the first set of new maps will be made free before the next set is released.

I actually didn't know that, that's cool though that Bungie sticks to their old ways instead of just trying to milk money out of everything like other companies do.

Sorry to take this somewhat off-topic, but I cannot understand how people think that 800 MS (M$ for the derogatory types) points, the equivalent of about $10, is too expensive. It makes no sense to me, especially given the higher costs in money and time to create games and subsequent downloadable content.

Maybe it's just the fact that people can't pay with straight credit cards anymore and are forced to get those proprietary points. This I can understand.

For me it's not that really. I have a problem that things at first were 400 points then the price goes up? That is cheap IMO.

I didn't buy the maps for two reasons, one, I rarely play H3, two, just like last time, the maps are only in certain playlists. I want to play the maps on everything. Last time once they were free, they were incorporated into all play lists.

Not true. Bungie have confirmed that if you purchase the new maps and go into something other than the special playlists (like Team Slayer), the game will check to see if you have the maps. If you do, it will factor in matching you up with other players with the maps as well. So you could play any map in any playlist as soon as you download them.

Bungie have also stated that they would try to make the Heroic Map Pack free around the time of release of the Legendary Map Pack. I don't know how Microsoft works the Marketplace, but I have seen items drop from a set amount of points to free and they have stayed free. So I would expect that projected change to happen.

Probably because Bungie use to price the maps in Halo 2, but Microsoft (:P) is pricing them higher this time around because MS needs more money to run than Bungie...or atleast I think they do...

Did that make any sense?

But lets not swing things off-topic.

as we all know. Microsoft is a very greedy corporation. The thing that pisses me off is that the money you pay for these maps don't go straight to bungie. I think they get way less than half of that. Which also angers me. I would rather pay that 800 ms points (10$ dollars) straight to bungie instead of having Microsoft take most of for their greedy selfs. Bungie deserves way more credit for those maps than Microsoft.
