Subject: A Solution for Spam/Repeat topics in The Flood and Halo 3 forums.

<3 Forky

Edit: The original thread in the Flood was locked, so I took the link off. The problem brought up in the thread was the amount of spam and repetitive topics in the Flood. Below is one of the better ideas for fixing the problem from the thread.Posted by: Hollohill
We need a slightly lower rank than moderator, which will enable us to have more mods with less risk. Like have a 'Spam Filter' rank that can lock threads and hand out temporary b-lists (maybe just up to 7 days). This would be given out only to responsible members, but there are a lot more of those than 'Ninja Quality' members.

My only problem with that is that the Mods must be up to their ears in PM's, and it wouldn't help much besides annoy them.

As a Squirrel Ninja I do hereby promise to uphold our traditions, beliefs, and secrets, to recruit and induct Squirrel Ninjas who represent our ideals with pride, and to defend our traditions at all costs to myself with no exception. As a Squirrel Ninja I promise this until I die, or can’t physically or mentally uphold the ways of the Squirrel Ninja.

That's not the issue being discussed. There are simply too many mods concerned about the Halo 3 forums that they have seemingly forgotten about the rest of Bnet. The last I saw a mod in the Flood was when a mob demanded it here about a month ago. Beyond that I haven't seen a mod in there for the longest time.

Well, what Zero is saying in his thread is that if there were more moderators those threads would be locked faster. And, how troublesome would it be to send PM's to mods for multiple threads? And yes, I do realize you could link to them all in on PM, but that takes time.

Two days ago I saw 2 straight pages of locked topics.

Need more examples?

PM them and they will come. Simple.

Doesn't take but 1 mintue to link 5 threads.

Yes, but who really wants to do that? I could see Halifax doing that, or some of the more upstanding members. Most people wouldn't take the time. They would just hit the report button and hope that the mods come. It's basically as if they'd be praying for something to happen.

All I'm saying is that if everyone does there part by not only reporting but if its a highe rlevel alert - misleading titles for ex.

PM a mod with a link, takes less than 15 seconds to make a link.

You get good at it over time.

I know, but some people wouldn't use the Mod finder and just send a PM to a random mod that might not be online.

Maybe a mod should give me permission to come to the flood and teach all you ppl how to use the mod finder and how to report threads.

No really its very easy, we have the tools, now we half to use them.

PM from now this is a conversation atm, IMO.

Before you concentrate on the Flood, I think we should take our concerns to the Halo 3 Forum. I don't think I'v ever seen so many threads on same topic on any other forum before.

Otherwise, I personally like some of these so called "point threads" there rather funny, especially the one from a while back about Cows.....Recon number 54 knows so much about cows. =D

The problem with that is that the Halo 3 forum is almost to the point where its irreparable. It would be incredibly difficult to fix it.

Thats the point it can't be fixed, unless every new user actually read the FAQ's. If Ninjas won't fix the Halo 3 forum, they probably won't fix any issues with the Flood...no offense to the kid who posted that topic, but its futile.

What Zero V2 is suggesting is that there should be moderators whose sole duty is to moderate the Flood, and no other forums.

I'm trying to say its futile, if they did that for the Flood. They would have to do that for the Halo 3 Forum, Optimatch Forum, Community Forum, General Forum, exc... I'm simply saying unless they do what I just said, its probably not going to happen. Not to mention how much moderators that would be needed to do such a large task.

I'd have to agree with that, makes sense. I just personally don't like the idea of increasing the numbers of members with the ability to instantly black list. (I had 1 issues with this in the past) Anyways I like Hollohill's idea. =D

*p.s* I agree with everything, except the temporary blacklistings. Thats a specific ability for Forum Ninjas. (Moderators) I think locking threads would be enough, but they can have direct communications with Ninjas if someone is needing of a more severe punishment.

Yeah, without the ban thing it would work a lot better.

But those other fourms (Classifides, Septagon, Optimatch, etc.) do not recieve the level of spam that the Flood recieves, with the exception of the Halo 3 forums. The moderating in them is perfectly fine and needs no extra attention.

I doubt the Halo 3 forum can be fixed, but the Flood can be fixed by some of its more responsible members.

No we need more people to not reply to spam, that would help a ton.

I was refering to the idea of assiging a mod to the Flood. But yes, I do agree with you. Given enough responsible members, the problem would fix itself over time. The thing is, you can't just create these members. Until these members show up, something has to be done to remedy the situation.

People not replying to spam would help, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Part of the problem is that people haven't read the rules.
