my friend is having a system link LAN soon, but i hardly ever get to play multiplayer (two sisters, no-one to play with). We will definately be playing Blood gulch CTF and maybe a few other levels. what Blood gulch specific and just general tactics/hints can you give me to get the jump on my friend?

Screen look. Its important to know where everyone is.

If you can, situate diff. teams in different rooms. Makes for more civilized play. Your parents will t hank you for it. Also encourages communication and teamwork b/c you don't feel like an idiot when you "call a play" or something and the other team sits there snickerng at you.

Communication. The best time to capture the flag is when the other team is pushing the offensive. For every player on offense is one less on defense. So communicate! Tell your team you're going for the flag and to not kill anyone. This means you won't have any new defenders suddenly respawning until you're in a vehicle and making a getaway.

Use vehicles. Own the vehicles, you own the map. Coordinate mutliple vehicles on attack.

Be a Bilbo Baggins. Be a Sam Fischer. Be a thief. Kills don't matter in CTF, only flag captures. If you truely want to capture the flag you sholdn't kill anyone. If you kill someone the first thing they'll want to do is kill you back. Sneak in unnoticed, not with five guys about to respawn with your name etched into their short term memory banks. Hide in there base and wait for the right moment. Again communicate and screen look (even on allies) so you know where the other team is situated and what your getaway plan can be. Call in a vehicle if you want.

Don't be predictable. Don't come out the teleport everytime, don't ncome across the hill everytime, etc. etc. PPl get easy kills sitting in one spot and killing Mr. Predictable as he makes another go at it. Keep the other team on their toes! use darnkess as a tool as well to sneak around. Practicing losing yourself quickly if you get spotted.

Have fun!

edited for some spelling.

The main thing to remember is that the enemy can no longer see your screen and therefore know where you are. Try to keep it that way for as long as possible so you can strike with a suprise. Out In The Open = Dead Meat

You can't see the enemies screens, talk to team mates a lot for information on movement of the enemy. If they have the flag, where are they? If you're close enough you might be able to stop what seems to be a definate score of a point. Bad Communication = Definate Lose

Now that you've got more players, hit hard. Might be a good idea to set up some sort of assault plan now for future reference. Here's one of mine:
* 3 players stay back at base and defend your base
* 1 player grabs a Ghost and goes through the caves of Blood Gulch.
* Lone Ghost player stays put near the opening that leads to the base.
* The 3 get in Vehicles (I prefer: 1 drives the Warthog, 1 guns the Warthog and 1 jumps in a Ghost as an escort).
* The 3 charge the base all at once, circling the enemy base and taking out any enemies they can (they respawn, but most likely not with the preferred weapon).
* The hiding player now charges out and goes for the flag. Going through the back entrance grabbing the flag
* The Flag Carrier has 3 options.
a) Get in the closest vehicle possible.
b) Get back in the Ghost
c) Get in the side seat team Warthog that circling the base by a well timed glance.
* Go back to your base to score a point.

Evaluation of Options:

Option A =
Good as it is quick and easy. May go wrong (no vehicles available). You may lose a Ghost but gain a Warthog. Although the enemy will notice the giant flag fluttering as you run for a vehicle.
Rating: 3/10
Getting the Point: 50/50 Chance.

Option B =
Good as you definately know there is a vehicle. Easy and a definate escape. Quick vehicle at hand. Only problem is getting back home.
Rating: 5/10
Getting the Point:

Option C =
Great plan yet hard to pull off. Pull it off and You're home before the enemy knows what has happened. Prone to failing due to Warthog getting taken out before pick up, timing issues and 'accidents'.
Rating: 5/10
Getting the Point: Almost Certain

Option C, How the enemy sees it: (Which is why I like it)
* A Warthog with 2 people in (Driver and Gunner) and an enemy in a Ghost
* They keep circling the base. "Why are they just firing and not going for the flag?"
* "......Team has the Flag". "WTF! No they haven't they haven't got out of their vehicles!"
* Looks down at empty flag holder. "Oh wait, they have! Where the hell is our flag?"
* "They are retreating. But who has the flag?"
* "3 in the Warthog! Where'd the passenger come from? He has the Flag! Quick! Snipe him!
* "Damn, enemy Warthog out of sight"
* "Where'd that extra Ghost come from?" <clicks> "I don't want a Ghost I want my flag!"

Simple tactic right here.

Step one: make sure there is respawn growth
Step two: make sure there are sniping weapons
Step three: make sure it is set on generic, not custom weapons
Step four: place all vehicles of your's inside the base
Step five: sit back and peg the enemy as they attack until their respawn time is neaarly a minute
Step six: move in for the flag with a single vehicle and haul ass back. Make sure you buddies are covering you.
Step seven: repeat steps 4 through 6 as needed.

Make sure you carry a long distance weapon at all times, my preffered weapon is the pistol. Then take with that any other weapon that floats your boat, sniper, rocket, shotgun whatever, I just improvise and take what's best for the situation.

Play offense or defense whichever your best at, but make sure you have someone on defense at all times, no matter what, unless it's 2 vs 2 then just go full offense. BTW how many are you playing with? I've never played more than 3 vs 3 but for 4 vs 4 a good formation would be.

1 defense- stays back and, well, defends the base

2 offence- ussually relentlessly, but not carelessly, assault the enemy base, prefferably in a hog

1 midfielder/flag snatcher- he waits for the opportune moment to steal the flag, ussually while offense are covering him and distracting the enemy. Or he can stay on midfield and help defend and hold that area and scout, he goes where he's needed.

Plan your attacks, communicate ALOT nothing kills teams faster than communication. Try to situate the teams in different rooms, but most of all have fun. =)

block the other teams portal. get the other teams tank put it in cave. and get a tank behind your base turned away from fire. have a sniper out of level on red side. or get to snipers rock if on blue team. hog 2 ppl one in gunner have that person launch out of gunner into base grab flag while sniper fire is going on and someone on side firing and take off and score

when i play we usually put one sneaky player up in midfield, one not so sneaky player there, a sniper in the back of the base with the warthog, and another guy either in the base, ontop of it, or sniping midfield.

The sniper at the back can see the whole base and picks of important targets for the midfielders. He uses the warhoge so your team has acces to it and the other team cannot use it to getaway

The not so sneaky midfielder should have a rocket launcher and the over shield if its available. He is to protecto from oncoming warthog assaults and wath the teleporter.

The sneaky midfielder can get the active camo, ans stir up -blam!- behind their base, steal the othe teams warthog and block their teleporter, get the flag on the assault, take out emimey snipers etc.

The other guy is the main base defender, and depending on the situation he might snipe if the sniper drives in to give the guy a ride with the flag.

talking is key, talk about location of enemy, if you need backup, and when you going to attack. Keep switching spots if someone dies so you dont loose the midfield area, you have to control that section if you want to be sucessful, cause thats the best defense.

Theres a Tunnel on one side of the map, if your on Red team it will be on your right, and if your on Blue it will be on your left!

The tunnel is good for snipers, where you can peak out, snipe someone, and then make a quick escape if they spot you. Its where i like to hide.

The Tunnel is also good if you on red team because as soon as you come out of your teleporter you will see it, follow the ridge on your right towards it then go through, till your on the other side, now if your careful you can go round the back. but Dont bother using the same route back once you've got the flag as its a long back to the tunnel. so use the teleport or warthog!

Have Fun!

well, all you really need is two people and a sniper rifle and a vehicle.
one person laydown fire on their base with the sniper. if your good enough, you will really get them riled up.
if the other player is good enough as well, he/she should be able to quietly sneak in the base and sneak back out.
not very high success rating, but when theres 16 players and its mighty chaotic, it plays well to the chaos.

You should face to TV's away from each other so they can't see your team's screens. Put a mirror or a big window behind their TV though. But don't make it too conspicuess. (I butchered that word)

Momentum in System Link Games is key.

I normally play 4v4 games when playing system link. It's easier to organize, since you don't have to play with routers and it's easier to find 7 other people than 15. This is the 4v4 strat I've concocted.

With 4v4, the opposing team has to be grossly out of position if you want to charge in with a Warthog. That doesn't happen very often. There's usually a sniper somewhere, and a player that will be respawning right on top of you. I only charge the base at the extreme beginning of the game, because no one has been killed yet and everyone is moving to a different position of the map. That will occasionally work, but you run the risk of giving the other team two Warthogs. I think it's always worth a try, because you can use it to your advantage later.

To get the flag on 4v4, you've got to get the advantage before you can move in, because normally you're going in alone. My team usually has 1 sniper whose main purpose is to find the other team's sniper. The rest of us go toward their base together, but spread out a little. Don't bother with any weapon but the pistol, if you can't use it now, learn. When you get everyone right by their base, start lighting them up as they respawn. Circle the base, and pick them off one by one if possible. Don't get on top of the base yet, just move closer in, always keeping the front of the base in your sights, because that's one of the places they'll respawn. It doesn't matter if you go in from the front, back, top, so long as you've got your teammates covering you. After you get the flag, steal the other team's Warthog and go for the base.
