Yeah. I agree. I think they should stop at 12. I mean, c'mon. Final Fantasy 13 sjust sounds dumb. Oh. and because of the link at the bottom of my sig., FF7 is now the only reason I have for liking the Japanese. Look with caution. Post your thoughts if you wish.

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

I think that FF7 is the best out of them all. I haven't played 1-6, but FF7 was perfect in my opinion. Now if only my friend would give it back.

FFVII still has the best battle/equip setup out of all of them, And I thought is was much more interesting than the others, but I never really got into IX.

It was far from perfect, but the materia system was brilliant.

I'm going to have to say it was my favorite of the 11 released so far (Spinoffs don't count).

Rumors suggest it'll be remade for the PSP, same game with updated graphics. Kind of the last hurrah in the FF7 revival that's coming soon (Advent Children, Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerebus, Crisis Core).

I kinda think "Aeris is hot" is the least appropriate reason to like the game, though. ;) Though, I guess that depends on what you think of Mandy Moore...

FF7 was a lot of fun for a traditional Japanese RPG. I don't like many of them, mind you, but FF7 was just a lot of fun until I sold my Playstation and got too lazy to buy it for PC. Spent hours on that Cactaur Island!

I bred a gold chocobo. Took forever because I'm inherently incompetent.

That was on Final Fantasy VIII.
I personally loved Final Fantasy VII, the Materia worked very well and I was shocked when it wasn't in VIII, I don't like VIII.
What were your teams when you beat Sephiroth at the end? Mine was: Cloud, Barret, and Red XIII. Never managed to beat Ruby and Emerald though :( Got a Gold Chocobo mind-you, along with Knights of the Round summon Materia; that kicked ass.

The materia was a great idea and worked exceptionally, but then again, so did FFVIII's Junctioning system. It's nice to have variety, I know I couldn't played the following Final Fantasies using the same system. However, what the best system is is certainly a debatable issue.

As for Sephiroth, I believe I used Cloud, Tifa and Cid, and just hit him with Quadruple Bahamut Zeroes and a steady old Knights Of The Round attack. Kinda takes the strategy out of it, but it's a hard job to knock his wall down and then get in a devastating attack.

I remember once managing to bring down Ruby Weapon, but Emerald was just too much, and too boring.

Chocobo breeding was a helluva lot of fun, as was toning up a Chocobo to be the best in the Chocobo races.

4x Knights of the round and just kept miming.

Now the ultimate weapons were a different story....

Well my memory is going in my old age. Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly. I'm pretty sure you could though.

EDIT:
Nah you have to be right now that I think about it....

Hiya -- This is GameJunkieJim,

Guess where I'm at?

Anyway to answer your question, Square was an ailing company in the Mid 1980's. The only game they had that did halfway decent over here was Rad Racer, and a crappy 3-D Worldrunner clone.

The company was about to go under, so they had one last shot. They commisioned a Fantasy Role Playing Videogame, and since many thought it would be the last game Square released, they titled it, The Final Fantasy.

Sales exploded, and Final Fantasy was the game that single handedly brought square into profits and popularity, and they made a sequel with the same engine. They used a similar baseline premise, and kept the same name out of respect for the one that made the company profitable again.

There likely won't be an end to the Final Fantasy series, because they are simple games made in the vein of their predecessors, and will always have an audience.

By the way, Final Fantasy VI was better than VII.
