What are you on about?

Are you honestly saying that #IV and #X/X-2 beat it? And the prequels?

Well, you're thoroughly entitled to your own opinion. But the fact of the matter is, you clearly have played a few of the FF games, and if you enjoyed them I don't see why you didn't enjoy the Eighth instalment.

IV was completely gorgeous, and played wonderfully.

X was just as bad gameplay wise as VIII, but the story sucked hard in VIII.
X-2 wasn't even a Final Fantasy game, that was a f%^@#$ marketing stunt.

Dress me up Barbie fairy ass Final Fantasy wannabe game.

I think VII was quite childish (they look like dolls, seriously) compared to VIII and lots of people really got into the game (VIII)calling it the best game ever with no questions asked. Like I do. I find it 10 times better than all other games put together. I shall enjoy that game to the end of time. But you are entitled to your opinion I guess....

I'm more into the roots of Final Fantasy, that's why I like the stylized character style of the series, VIII departed too far from that, and with the new generation (FFX onward) they've gone completely away from it's roots. IX is the best one on PS, but VI was the best Final Fantasy overall.

It's a tossup between VI and VII, personally. Asking me to choose is like asking me to choose between my firstborn and a puppy- I couldn't do it (hehe).

The title of "Worst" Final Fantasy belongs either to FFIIj, or FFIX. IX was just. Lame. Annoying characters, crappy ending, direct theft of Yoda's "Anger leads to hate" speech from Phantom Menace, crappy attempt to connect the game to previous games.

Screw the roots, I say. ATB is old and busted, anyhow. Considering FF's 1-VI were so different, I've never understood the extreme resistance to changes in the game.

XII should make people happy either way. Unless you're some die-hard fan of ATB, that is.

And actually, X-2 was a really good game. It was bizarre in a cutesy sort of way, but the gameplay was actually a lot of fun, and did a good job of changing up the old means of FF play.

I'd probably say that IX was superior to X...

However, I'd agree with your points regarding IX. Personally, I think it was an attempt to cash in after the success of the previous instalments (with VII and VIII widely regarded as classics, who wouldn't go and buy the next?), and possibly to raise funds for the FF movie.

To all of those that argue that all Final Fantasy's are bad because they are called "final" but still go on:

To say a game is bad because of it's name is terrible logic.

In my own personal opinion, the Final Fantasy series is the most epic and varied RPG series in existence, each game they have pretty much had a totally new system of play.

FF7 is one one of the best RPGs ever, and it was on PS1! I prefer the likes of KOTOR but FF7 is fantastic. I cant wait for this film i have been hearing about. And no I dont know when its being released! It definantly isnt a rumour because I saw a Japenese trailer.

I liked IX more than VII simply because of the classic feel of it, the story, well it could have used work indeed, but it was miles beyond VIII's story.

VI is still the best one, no matter what. And ATB, well it was a nice little thing, but not a reason to like or dislike it, in my opinion. I liked II (IVj) and it didn't have an ATB system really.

Just, No.

That game was completely awful, and just went to drive another nail in Final Fantasy's proverbial coffin. Ever since VIII they've been screwing with the formula, and it's caused them to lose enough money to have been picked up by EA and Enix respectively to keep capital.

If they continue to make blunders like that one of them will truly be the Final Fantasy.

The great thing about FF7 was the materia system... the way it would grow stonger, and then multiply, etc...

The whole mood to the game was somewhat dark, unlike the others. I hated Vincent and Cait Sith though. Just a waste of party space if you ask me. The Golden Saucer seemed to usually eat up about 10 of my 40 hours of gameplay each go around. That, and all of my gil. I'd say FF7 has to be the best one of the series. 8 was cool for awhile, but you get a little bored with extracting magic from the map, or whatever, and junctioning it to each specific stat. At first it was confusing, then it was appropriately fun, then completely tedious. 9 was god-awful in my humble opinion. Just a load of crap, thriving on fan based sells purely from the name itself. It's Final Fantasy, it's gotta be good, right? Wrong, it freakin sucked arss.
I hated the fact that you couldn't explore freely in an airship on 10. Everything was just layed before you as you went down each TIGHT path, with an occasional "gleam" coming from a bush in the form of an Elixer. Very boring. Never played 11 or any of the spin-offs, other than tactics.

Anyway, FF7 rules. Actually I think Im gonna go out and buy a play station again.

Hmmm... thanks for the memories.

If anyone cares, here's how you beat Ruby and Emerald Weapons.

Ruby
The easier of the two. First, kill two of your party, and give the summon "Phoenix" to the one still alive (or if you are less cool then keep the people dead or just use Phoenix Downs). Make sure the alive character has the summon "Hades", and you have a lot of MP.
Normally Ruby will make members of your party disappear until you have one left, and you can't hurt him until this, however as you have two dead, he will put his claw in the ground, so you can hurt him, but he counters magic and summons with the spell "Ultima." First of all, cast "Hades" on Ruby. The use Phoenix (it heals Ruby, so use it on the claws). Now just abuse Hades, as it has the same effect as the status "Stop", until he dies. You can speed this up with KotR, but keep him Hades'd. Easy.

Now, if you didn't already, go get that Gold Chocobo from the man in Kalm, and head to the corner of the map (any will do, they are all the same). Enter the cave and get the KotR. Now here comes the big preparation for Emerald.

Emerald
Go to Battle Arena in the Gold Saucer and get W Summon and Omnislash. Then get Ultima Weapon (sword) by killing Ultima Weapon (enemy). Equip all this with Cloud and you can do the special battle. Win this and get the "Final Attack" Materia. Get this to as high a level as you can, and do the same for Phoenix. Now go to the underwater reactor and morph a ghost ship. Go to the old man in Kalm and get the Underwater Materia. Now, if you really want to prepare, get all your characters to 7777 health (get to xx77 health and use potions). Now for the first 5 minutes of the fights your character will do 7777 damage a lot of times. Make sure that Final Attack is paired with Phoenix (Emerald has an attack which does total number of materia x 1111, which is normally 9999, and it is on all). Keep KotRing and miming etc. and eventually it will die. Hurrah. Now get Master Summon, Master Magic and Master Command from the Old Man in Kalm.

Note: there are faster ways to do this, but if you haven't already managed to do them, this guide will make it easier.
Note2: for multiple Master Materias, get every Materia of that colour (mastered) and bring it to the corresponding large materia (except with Master Command, you don't need W-Summon/Item/Magic and you don't need Double Cut or Slash-All.

Any questions PM me, I am not quite a FF7 master, but I know a lot about it.

I thought X and X-2 sucked. They had this jolly cute happy-go-lucky crap that made the game -blam!-. This especially goes for X-2.

Anyway, I didn't mind X, but X-2 was an insult. And I bought it the day it came out...

Obviously, since each one sells more than the prior in the magnitude of millions.

FFX sold 4 million in the first 2 days it was in Japan. In Japan alone. It went on to sell 4 million worldwide.

X-2 sold 6.6 million worldwide.

I'm sorry, but to give it such a heavy judgement, I'm going to have to suggest that you didn't actually play the game.

FFX-2 was awful. I tried to play it, was skeptical after seeing the introduction, and it went downhill from there. I saw a glimmer of hope when I met up with Tidus, but then, I resigned to the fact that I would have to put up with an all girl cast. I quit soon after.

Don't get me wrong, I know people that would have liked it. Unfortunately, they were not me.

I did force myself to play it.

No I did not finish it. Any magic that it could have had was killed by the "improved" job system.

Take it back to FFV, if you want a good job system.

I stan' ba mah storie!!! [/jamaican]

Good lord, how many accounts do you have?

Anyhow, I still think you're not looking at the core of the system itself- you're too upset at the surface. At its core, it was a job system that allows you to change jobs on the fly, with a clever system for training up the skills in each job to mastery.

I've yet to hear a good argument as to why the system is bad.

ANYHOW, I'm not going to get into this. This was an FF7 thread, anyhow. ;)

You may be right -- it's collecting dust in the corner. I'll give it another go, just to try to see your side of it.

And I had to make this one, my work computer uses MSN, and it won't let me sign on with my own Login sometimes. As soon as I figure out a better way around it, I'll let this one die.

Tell Achronos I'm sorry, but it's his fault for having addictive forums.

And you aren't supposed to say anything about you know who.

I have a confession to make... And this is really hard for me to say, and I'm sure it's hard for most to understand...

I've yet to actually beat any of the FF games, I just never got to finishing them. Before I could, some new game would come out that I'd be really excited for. I'm pretty close (as far as story goes) to the end of X, but I haven't played it at all for a long long time. I know, it's pathetic, at least I witnessed every part of FFVII.
