Ok everyone, before you go screaming, "OMG BUNGIE MAKE SWAT A FULL-TIME PLAYLIST" and "OMGZ BUNGIE DOESN'T CARE THAT I'VE BEEN WAITING A WHOLE WEEK FOR THIS BORING UPDATE," you need to consider a few things:
1.) Making tons of playlists will spread out player concentration in matchmaking. For example, if 1,000,000 people are online, and there are 50 playlists, each playlist will have significantly fewer people, making match time/quality go down the pooper.
2.) Part of SWAT's 100,000+ popularity is because of its novelty, and double-xp. If it were a full-time playlist with normal XP, people would stop playing as much after the first week or so. (Think rocket-race.) (Also please understand that SWAT is a much better game than rocket-race, but the same decrease in popularity would happen over time)
3.) QUALITY TAKES TIME. Don't think that just because Bungie doesn't pump out a new map, gametype, and armor permutation every 7th day that they don't care about their fans. They take their time to make QUALITY CONTENT for us. It is extremely frustrating to see fellow Bungie "fans" bash them for "boring, lackluster" updates. Just because there is an update every week doesn't mean there will be groundbreaking new features each week.
Everything being said, I am a very avid fan of SWAT, and hope that it will still be live by Monday when I can get back home from Spring Break and play it!
Never mind that the total number of players goes down when the playlists remain static. I picked up H3 for the first time in months for Grifball, and now for SWAT. I play now only because the weekend playlists are more interesting than the regular ones. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Updating the playlists increases the total population.
