It's not that mecha aren't awesome. I like them. It's just the simple fact that it's more realistic that tanks and the like be used. Tanks and Jeeps don't require complicated and sensitive hydraulics and servos that require intensive maintenance. Also, the legs on a mecha are easily a weakness and difficult to armour without further reducing the maneuverability.
Compare this against a Tank or Jeep which can move at a much faster speed, carry just as much weaponry and presents a more compact targeting profile and you have to wonder what's the point.
Now, a 100+ ton mecha that carries infantry and vehicles into battle, by merely walking through the enemy lines while simultaneously blazing away with it's weaponry... Now that's plausible but not easily pilotable.
You something along the lines of the AT-AT from the Star Wars universe? That sounds cool, but its more impracticle considering the Pelican is much more useful than a four legged troop transport.
Oh well, Im fine with the current vehicles, except Id love something like a larger tank that was more for taking out buildings and such since the enviroments can be altered.
