Virtual memory is actually a small amount of disk space that Windows uses as if it were RAM. To be honest, I think you're only option is to buy more ram. It sounds like you've only got 128mb or possibly 256mb.

Depending on how old your machine is, you might be better off getting hold of another machine... but a newish model only needs some more ram. Prices vary depending on what sort you want and where you get it.

Yeah, running out of virtual memory happened a lot on my P3 800MHx with 256 RAM. It definately means that whatever app[s] you are runing needs a better comp.

well i'll just get more RAM for now, from what i've seen its relitivly cheep. like 54.99 for 512MB. thats within my budget.

kinda figurs ya know, i just put my new grapghics card in "ati radion 9800 pro" and now i need more memory. i gota make this computer last as long as posible becase my dad dosent plan to buy another for at least 4-5 more years. i remember when i first got it, braging to others of how cool it was and now i'm just trying to keep it going.......

oh-well, 4 MORE YEARS! by then bush will be out.

Heyyo,

OOO, never do games while burning a cd.

For most newer games? if you wanna crank the graphics you need at least 728MB of ram, 1GB recommended.

Halo even at full settings only requires aboot 512MB of ram.

Holy crap, burning a cd while online while playing halo. Yeah, no wonder. It takes a lot of system resources to burn a cd, especially if you have a fast drive.

another thing you can do to get rid of that message is increase the amount of virtual memory.....(duh)

its in system properties (right click on my computer, properties)
advanced tab
hit settings in performance area
advanced tab
hit change in virtual memory area
select custom size, and depending on how big your drive is, you can set the amount to a max of 1024 mb initial size, and 4096 mb maximum size
then hit set
then hit ok

voila! more virtual memory (remember DO NOT set an amount that is greater than the amount left on your hard disk)

although ram is much faster than your hard disk, so it would be better to get more ram (but if youre like me and have no money, thats not really an option)

o i run halo at full settings with 256 mb ram, and i have no problems

Yeah but I want more RAM....Should I go through with buying it? How hard is it to install? Do you just pop it into the RAM slot things just like a PCI card or soemthing? Is there any software that needs to be installed?

No software, and yes just pop it in. I suggest the same speed of RAM, and same type. Ex., if you have 2x256, get another 2x256 just for matching purposes...

Yeah, just snap the others out and pop the new ones in. The rule of thumb, to be safe rather than sorry (forgive the cliche) is:

When installing RAM, it's best to have it the same speed and in the same quantities. I.e., don't have single channel 512 and then dual channel 1 gig (2x512). Prolbems could result. Also make them the same speed (MHz) and try to get similar latencies.

As long as those sticks match the ones already in your system, you're good. It sounds like you've already got 2x256, so another 2x256 at the same speed would be just right.
