"If you have nothing to say, don't say it."

ಠ _ ಠ

I've been noticing a conspicuous number of complaints about the Halo 3 forum. It's so full of useless threads that moderators have to spend a considerable amount of time to keep it in check. Is it really necessary to have the forum at all?

My suggestion would be to temporarily shut down the Halo 3 forum and see if it frees up time to properly moderate the others. If it really ends up helping, shut it down permanently or at least re-found it in order to clean up all the trash (and tell all who post there to actually post something serious and worthy of attention).

Any input from the Powers That Be?

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

As much as I dislike the Halo 3 forum it is necessary evil. If we didn't have it to channel all of the useless threads then all of them would end up everywhere else; making even more of a mess to clean up. I think that things are just going to stay like this until they die down on their own or the ninjas actually start to kill people.

On a completely unrelated note: free katana sharpening over here.

Over at HFCS we're constantly hard...

Wait...
What?

I agree with Nedge. If the Halo 3 Forum didn't exist all the junk would spill into everywhere else.

If you shut down the H3 forum, then you'd have 100's of threads in all the other forums asking why the H3 forum was shut down. Which would lead to flame wars and inflammatory threads yelling at Bungie.

Interesting idea, but the intent would be defeated by the resulting chaos.

Well, I would normally be inclined to agree with you, but neither of us really knows that. See, by taking away the Halo 3 forum, we would actually be depriving the, to stretch the definition, spammers of a place to put their useless threads. For example, threads on the yet-living subject of "can i haz reconz" would not have anywhere else to go--therefore their number would probably decline greatly.

I disagree considering that we get a thread asking for Recon, or some other off-topic post, in the community forum every once in a while. The day I see a lock on every thread on the front page is the day I call it quits.

There's already enough spillover crap in the Underground as it is. Can you imagine how much worse it would get if we removed the trash-can of B.net? Trash would be all over the place.

The crap in the Halo 3 forum is exaggerated. The forum is serving its purpose fine, methinks.

The halo 3 forum used to be my home. Until it was also the home of "Fiv mel3 bugni3" and other spam threads like that so I moved to the community forum and lately its been both good and people sucking up to ninjas and bungie. Then theres a lot of help threads lately like this so.

Although you're right 80% crap is bad enough in my opinion.

Sorry Deus but the outrage this would cause alone would sprout many spam threads, I think it is fine the way it is, at least the ninjas know where to moderate most of the time instead of jumping everywhere (which they do but it is more concentrated in the halo 3 forum).

All right. Just a suggestion.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

There was a thread like this before... it lasted long, a little too long... got locked... *gasps for air*

... must warn others....

Okay, then. If some mod sees this, he can lock it.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

They locked it because everyone felt the need to dive into huge tangents about what Bungie.net used to be and blah blah blah, this site isn't good anymore... boo hoo wah....

» Sincerely, Dan

That makes no sense, why would they close the forum about their most popular game? People aren't going to give up, all the Halo topics will be sent to the other forums. Sorry, your idea isn't really thought out at all.

If you shut down the halo 3 forum then activity will go down. Although it may seem bad, it might be a good thing. Maybe thats what bungie needs to do. Shut down the halo 3 forum so that people can get a rest from all of the hustle and bustle that goes around in there. Nice idea Deus.
