i completely agree i payed money for these maps and i only had them for about 2 weeks then now i figured out they will be free. so i basically wasted money for something i could have waited and gotten for free.
Although i played on them before some people i agree that we should get at least half of our points back.
Hmm, so you're saying that when I bought Heroic back in December that I wasted money on something I could've gotten for free if I'd waited? Or how about Killtacular, Maptacular and Blastacular map packs for Halo 2? Bungie said with each of these releases that eventually the maps would be free. It doesn't take much reading to get educated on these things (with anything else, you should know what it is that you're buying before you buy it). Yes, they were a little less clear about when Heroic would become free, but they did say eventually the maps would be free. I bought the maps knowing full well that I could've gotten them for free later on. I don't feel the least bit bad for those that bought the maps two weeks ago or even this Monday night (North America).
Moving along to the update itself...
What I really have a problem with is the part "We are currently unaware of any plans" for the Legendary pack to become free. What does that spell, kids? Microsoft is putting their foot down as publisher. The Legendary map pack will probably never be free. This is bad. For anyone that bought Heroic the day it was released knows that the maps came up very rarely in regular matchmaking (outside the DLC playlist[s]). It's bad for the same reason that when you buy Forza DLC (or something similar) you will run into problems finding others with the same DLC unless they're on your friends list. Yes, Bungie is going to give people special weekend playlists and the DLC playlist, but its going to do nothing more than segment the Halo 3 population OR make our Legendary purchase not worthwhile.
What made Killtacular, Maptacular and Blastacular so special was that eventually they would be free and people would be required to download the maps and everyone would have a great variety of maps to play on. Now Microsoft is saying they want to squeeze every last red cent out of people for this map pack, and then still not even make it a requirement to the play the game? In my opinion, the hardcore people that will pay for it are going to pay for it within the usual 3 month period after release. Others will wait till it becomes free. The people that won't buy it because they're cheap are not going to wait several months down the road after having the game for a year and a half then just up and decide to buy it.
Please let this opinion be known to your Masters, Bungie. Is this how they're punishing you for escaping to the underground railroad and going to the North? By punishing us? The people that have been supporting (and BUYING) the DLC from the get?
EDIT: Whoops, my bad. I forgot the Bonus map pack (Halo 2) was free from the beginning.
I wish more people would look at your post.
I for the record bought every DLC for Halo 2. However, I for one haven't bought the first DLC, and I haven't played Halo 3 in quite a while and I was looking forward to being able to be update with the rest of the population, but I won't pay more than $2 per map. Thats my limit I refuse to pay upkeeping costs to enjoy a game.
Every other DLC that I can think of said they will be free in the future, this to me says that they will not be free no matter how much I wait. This is a complete shot in the gut, when the property holder can not determine the cost of DLC, there is a problem. I for one will not buy nor put in Halo 3 until I know that these will be free in the future. So your support by following my lead.
EDIT......
I wish to make it clear I make 90,000+ a year, so I am no way too "cheap" to buy the new maps, I feel that I should get what I pay for.
And the fact that they said that this content is not currently being planned to be free should worry everyone, since M$ is gorging everyone to pay for "premium content", in every game if the publishers want it or not.
The fact that is was made clear that “We didn’t set the price? If that didn’t settle in” let me tell you whats to follow, every single game that goes platinum their DLC will be priced at 800 MS points or $10. I fell that every publisher should determine their price not M$.
I am looking forward to the push that Valve has put on M$ saying we want our DLC to be free, we will see what M$ wants to put it up for though.
800 points anyone????????
