why is it doing this?!?! i have Halo PC and love it. lately i switched from a 40 GB hard drive(terrible, i know) to a 120 GB. now all of a sudden Halo gets really laggy for about 10 seconds whenever there is a checkpoint. it never did this on my old drive. and my computer is NOT a peewee system. it's not the best, but it's more than half way decent. i kinda think it has to do with a particular program i installed, although i have no idea which one. i download a lot of stuff... here's the technical info:

I'm running it at 1024 x 768 resolution.
changing the framerate makes almost no difference whatsoever.
all the graphics are high, as this makes no difference either.
i also run it with VSYNC. running it on no VSYNC, or 30 FPS doesn't seem to make it better.
my computer specs:
AMD Sempron 2400+ CPU
ATI Radeon 9550 64mb w/ATI Catalyst
1 GB of RAM memory.
120 GB hard drive (as mentioned above)
no sound card

Also, the sound can get kinda choppy when im firing a weapon quickly, such as a pistol or AR. the sound effect will skip over itself, so that only every other bullet noise actually plays completely. i set the sound variety and normal and this helped a lot.(compared to high)

I could really use some help. i don't know why it did this. by the way, i had downloaded Gamecam V2 and halo would not allow it. it utterly crashed with gamecam running, and my Half Life 2 demo lagged terribly as long as gamecam was installed, so i got rid of it. everything was peachy until now. :'(

This is a pretty normal problem with most users. There really isn't anything you can do for the check point issue.

For the sound issue you might want to turn down some of the settings to medium or even low. Make sure EAX or whatever is off.

Also your computer is pretty suck, tbh.

you're no help. why, i ask you, did it start doing this problem when it didn't before hmmm? and fyi, my computer is above average. you need to get out more. a lot of computers are around 1200 or 1600.

No, its terribad. Considering sempron is around 2 generations or more old. The average gaming computer is probably a C2D E6800, with a Nvidia 8600 or better, 2 GB of DDR 2 ram, and about 300-500 GB hard drive with a 5.1 compatible sound card.

Yours is far below average. Just like mine.

You could try defragging you hard drive for the loading problem. You could also try messing with your sound device but since I don't know what OS you are using that kinda makes it hard.

Windows XP. and i don't know for sure if it's a Sempron. maybe it's an Athlon.

Well what's the "stuff" you download? Run an antivirus. And does this occur at every checkpoint? Your computer is less than 1/4 decent, so it could be normal.

would you STOP patronizing my computer? it runs beautifully. my antivirus is pretty good, but i'll scan anyway. it does it at every checkpoint, yes, but it never did it before.

Long live the Last Refuge!

Your computer is worst then mine I think, since I can run vista on my computer, but your video card is way better then my 6150LE.

I have always had a delay when loading the new area, (esp in AotCR bridge sequence) it usually a few seconds. Bottomline is you had to reinstall the OS and something changed from what you had; drivers, or new programs, etc. Unless you know what that change is your prob not going to go away.

Also its generally not a good idea to get an attitude with the people that are helping you, that is if you want them to continue to help you.

im only having an attitude with people who think my computer sucks. it runs wonderfully. and btw, mine could run vista ok, but XP is way better in performance and practical means. gaming too. i love Microsoft, but im pretty perturbed at their Vista-only thing for Halo 2. it really makes me wanna toss a hand grenade in Bill Gates office

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Your computer runs vista slowly because your computer is slow. I am sorry but that is the truth.

Press Control and F12 and see what you do to cause a loss in framerate. Then once you find out stop doing it, or just get over it.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

This is all very entertaining but it would seem you need to be told your computer sucks, just one more time. So... Your computer sucks.
