Do you think close range won't even be that effective in halo 2? Think about it all the maps are going to be way bigger and there are 3 new weapons with scopes. But there are also some new close range weapons like the plasma sword and smg's, and personally I like middle range but I'm pretty decent at all ranges.

It's not like all areas will be wide open spaces, you know. There will be things to duck behind and run through and times when you'll have no choice but to get up close and fight dirty.

Ignore these four words.

The plasma sword alone will make getting up close and personal extremly fun and satisfing.

I think Halo 2 is a good balance of Big and Small maps (like Lockout compared to WaterWorks)

well, the pistol doesn't have a scope anymore and that was one of the best all around weapons in my opinion, so i believe that it will be a combination of close and far range just like in halo. they're going for balance remember that;s their main goal/point

The pistol has a new skin, a scope, and the ability to shoot 12 three-round bursts. That's right, it is now the Battle Rifle.

You people never learn! The Battle rifle replaces the MA5B while there is a new Magnum Pistol

Close range... obsolete!? Hell no! Come on now! Just looking at some of the new levels Bungie is incorporating are making it harder for snipers or any other form of long range combat! Not all big levels are going to be like Blood Gulch (Sniper Canyon) From the levels I've seen, their will be more obstacles, making it harder for snipers. Just because their are new weapons for long range combat, and bigger levels, doesn't mean that close range combat would be obsolete! If so, everyone would be to afraid to advance on eachother! Imagine a game of CTF with no one going for the flag! Games would go on forever with out Close Range Combat!

Look at zannzibar(sp?). It has fairly wide open areas accompanied close combat smaller areas like inside the building where the flag is. I know bungie is trying super hard to keep all things balanced.

A magnum pistol would be awesome!

I suppose you could look at it that way. I see it as the Assault Rifle becoming smaller and dual-wieldable (SMG), while the pistol becomes bigger and more life-like (Battle Rifle). A new Human pistol is also made that has no scope and clip size is decreased.

I learn, yes I learn. Only in a different way.

Yeah, the levels are probably going to be a lot bigger. However, just looking at Zanzibar and some of the pictures in various magazines, you can tell that there are a lot of small corridors and rooms where close range combat is the only way to go. Since there are open areas also, ranged weapons will play a role too. Nothing is going to completely go away, which is good. Bungie, as far as I can tell, is making a perfect mix of old and new things, so that the game still has the great feel of the original Halo, while not being exactly the same, and therefore retarded.
