Did it fill up all the other slots with players before it restarted? If it did, they yes, you lost the EXP--it was tantamount to quitting.

I sometimes have this problem. I'm not sure why it happens, but I suspect that it's because of the connection. Yours may not be entirely up to scratch.

It could also be specific to that particular playing session. Restart your console if it happens again--it may help.

Oh, and avoid the exclamation points--your post looks like spam.

Sorry, I have no affiliation with Digital Ph33r's machinima. I had the name long before Halo 3 came out.

And the system simply docks your EXP if you go AWOL at any point during the game. That includes actually quitting, lagging out of the game due to a bad connection, taking your disk out, et cetera. It's for the common good, so I guess you can take solace in that.

I had this happen to me too. I didn't even realize I was losing experience until I saw this topic.

But as Deus_Ex_Machina said, it is for the common good. A player leaving a game, whether it is intentional or not, diminishes the other players' enjoyment of the game. Taking a point away is a way of keeping people from quitting out of every game they get into that they do not like. If you disappear, the system views it as a quit, and acts accordingly. So in the end, it is a good system, even if it can be annoying at times.
