Without giving you any numbers, one thing to really look at is the vid card. I mean, my desktop will run Halo PC rather well and I got it for like 800 bucks (for everything, flat screen monitor and all that). But it had an integrated video card (yuck). I just went and bought a cheap vid card (any vid card is better than integrated) for it. It will play Halo fine but the visual effects are not great. My laptop on the other hand plays it great with a better video card. My whole point is, one place most computers off the shelf make their cut backs is on the video card. IMO a good video card is what is going to make the difference in your quality of play. There is a thread on this board about video cards you should check before you make any decision on you buy. You may think you are getting a deal, but the on that is a little more expensive may have a much better video card. Know what I mean?

I would suggest you get a custom built machine. It will probably save you money and you'll only get what you want.

I originally had my machine built for £300... It's not anything special but it plays most games with no problems. I did find that I had to upgrade the graphics card though, so, including the graphics, it cost me £500... but you don't have to spend that much on your graphics... There are cheaper cards that will do the job.

Got mine for $1100...conversion rates approximate that to about 500 pounds. Seriously, custom build it. Not only do you know exactly what goes into your computer, but it's cheaper and a helluva lot more fun.

You can get just about any new computer these days that will play Halo PC. My computer has only a 1.4Ghz P4, 512 mb ram, and a 64 meg Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400 PCI card, (yes thats right PCI), and I can play Halo and FarCry without a problem.

I had a PCI card but it sucked. It was better than integrated. But it still sucked.

Heyyo,

All I'm saying, is HP's the lesser-evil of big corporation computer dealers, cause they have agp slots in their mobos at least. I myself would rather just buy parts n' custom build, but ya gotta remember some just don't take the time to learn n' to reasilse the evils of big corporations.

Also, one of me buds does tech support for HP... I myself wondered how he was able to land a job like that since he's quite the azz. Lmao... wonder if he got fired yet...
