ARBITER, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!!! WORT WORT WORT.
Snoozy, "It's not on the level of a skull" as they said, Frankie I believe it was.
The original plan was changed, they said. It could very well mean that the JNAM acronym and the JNAM acronym spelled out in the hex, the games programming, may have been a part of that missing egg, but never used. The only way to prove or disprove that, that I can think of, is to find out when the box covers were made, and when that was said in the interview; if the boxcovers were made first, then I'd say there's a 65% chance that's the original plan that was dropped.
Modders found all sorts of things in the hex, but there's things that didn't show up in the hex until they were used, like the presence of the permanent active camo with Master Chief. When it's engaged, the hex said "active_camo_cheat_on", but was never reported as being seen in the hex as "active_camo_cheat_off". So if that egg is still out there, it's definitely not sitting on top of the hex.
As to what to do? We don't really know. Playing through campaign on legendary with all skulls is the first bet, nonstop playing, all the way through, in single player. However, since a skull, Iron if I remember right, affects co-op, it may have to be done in co-op, or in both.
Also, the first update made some changes that may make it impossible to find. The first update changed the effect of the Black Eye skull on the snow. Originally, when you picked up Black Eye, it turned off the snow. If you dropped the skull and picked it back up, the snow came back on, drop it and pick it up again, the snow goes off, etc etc, like a lightswitch. The first update changed this, changed it to being random, or at least not like a lightswitch. For this one difference, I devoted one of my xboxes to no updates, and the other to being updated, just for the sake of being able to test my findings, so that I don't sound like a heretic when reporting things to the community.
I don't personally believe in the gate... if I was to believe in any gate, it would be in the door on top of the cliffs at the end of Great Journey. But there's no sense trying to get there until I've worked my way through campaign with all the skulls on, and on Legendary.
Anyway, there's more evidence favoring the existence of the missing egg than there is denying it.
