Hey guys,

There are two awesome new maps that you guys should check out: Cliffhanger and Fissure Falls. I got these this afternoon and played a few games and they are both a buttload of fun.

--Cliffhanger--
This was done by Molkien. It's a mostly outdoor map. Lots of fun! Here's a few screenshots:

--Fissure Falls--
This was done by CrispySpartan. It's an indoor map, a tad smaller (think a tad smaller than Hang 'em High), but it does an awesome job of keeping the action fast paced and focused. It's by far my favorite user-made map so far. Screenshots don't do justice to how much fun the action is.

Here's a few screenshots:

Right now, there's a server running these two maps (plus Nightcamp_CE and Quickest). The server's address is 69.56.201.195:2302 (or look for HALOREVOLUTIONS in the server list). Since it's running Nightcamp_CE and Quickest in the rotation, you'll want to have those installed so you don't get booted when those maps come up.

"I'm all over it like oil on a supermodel!" you say. "Where do I get all these awesome new maps?" Link-o-rama (right-click, "Save Target as..." I recommend WinRAR to unzip the .rar files):
Cliffhanger: http://cortana.org/files/mp/cliffhanger_final.rar
FissureFalls: http://firststrike.halocity.org/fungi/fissurefall/fissurefall .rar
Quickest: http://66.135.32.21/levels4you/sections/halopc/files/quickest .zip
Nightcamp_CE: http://somerhino.halocity.org/secret/9687/nightcamp_ce.zip

Of course, you'll need to be running HaloCE (Custom Edition) to be able to play these new custom maps. If you haven't already downloaded it, here's a list of mirrors where you can get it. It's free for all owners of HaloPC, so get your butt over there and get it! :) In addition to the ability to create and use custom maps, it also has several important bug fixes and new features (including improved prediction code to help reduce your leading distance and player warping). And since it lives in a separate directory, you can keep the old HaloPC version and have both on your computer at the same time, if you want.

Once you've got HaloCE installed, you'll want to make a new profile and configure all your settings the way you had it on the old version. Then simply drop the new .map files into the maps folder (in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\maps), fire up HaloCE, and you're ready to roll!

Hope to see some of you guys online either tonight or tomorrow sometime. Good times were had by all.

Once you unzip the .zip or .rar files, you'll have a .map file (like cliffhanger.map). To put the map file in your map folder, just drag and drop into the maps folder.

The easiest way to find the maps folder is to right-click on your desktop shortcut for Halo Custom Edition, select "Properties," and click the "Find Target" button. That will locate haloce.exe on your hard drive. The maps folder is in the same folder as haloce.exe.

For convenience, you'll probably want to make a shortcut to the maps folder or your hard drive. Right-click and drag to your desktop, and select "Create Shortcut here". Once you have that shortcut, you can just drag and drop the .map files there and it will put them in the real maps folder.

Hopefully that makes sense.

I've piddled with 3DS Max a little bit, but I still suck at using it. Gearbox has made a tutorial on how to make a custom level. It comes as part of the HEK (Halo Editing Kit) download, or you can read it online at http://www.cortana.org/HEK_Tutorial/. It teaches you how to make maps, including how to use 3DS Max.
