Posted by: TheBigCFire needs oxygen to ignite. If you were in a room that had air that was 100% methane, not only would you suffocate, but if you struck a match it wouldn't even light. Fire needs oxygen to ignite, so unless they have a fair amount of oxygen on their planet, then one bullet wouldn't do a damn thing. In fact, you might not be able to set of any sort of explosive either.True I think you need a fuel as well which would be like coal or wood.
Dude, the heat wouldn't ignite the methane because there isn't any oxygen. No explosions/fire can take place on their planet, so C4 wouldn't do anything and neither would plasma. The only difference is plasma doesn't need a spark or explosion to be used in their weapons. This is for what Mojo said at the end of the first page. [Edited on 6/17/2004 10:21:34 AM]
You are all forgetting the basics of fire. You have to have oxygen to make fire. Remember from grade school and the fireman came to see you. You need three things to make fire, heat fuel and oxygen you take away any of the three and you kill the fire. I am not saying you could'nt have a fire there but this is by deffinition out of this world so they are playing by a whole other set of rules than we are.The Duke
fine get a spark of electricity and it will ignite it cuz a spark isnt fire it is an electrical based kinda fire. dont need oxygen.

NEAT, I think you looked a little far into what I said. You said the picture of the maskless grunt is not Halo 2 related. Where do you think the Maskless grunt came from, then? Are the new shots of Lockout not Halo 2 related as well? The point was that if it's a Halo 2 image, it's Halo 2 related. I have no idea under what circumstances we might come across one of those toothy little bastards snarling at us like that.Oh, and I oh Yoozel for that. Where did I put by payback bat?
January 30, 2004 (Warthog's Day)The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.
Rockets would work in a methane environment maybe not the explosion but they would fly. And unless the warthog has a fuel cell it won't work either. If a grunt farted would it be mostly oxygen?
!. as above, you need Oxygen to have a fire, setting off a spark would allow you to have Two of the three things you need for a fire, 1 fuel=methane 2 energy=spark Oxygen, nope still don't have that so NO fire. (electrical fires are the plastics around the short circuiting wires so the electricty is the energy Plastic fuel)Explosives are highly unstable and already have 2 of the 3 ingredients for fire what they don't have is enerdy to start the chain reaction (there is Oxygen in the explosives molecules) You just need a spark or heat (so you could explode C4 in space if you wanted to.
you could always bring oxygen. get a bunch of oxygen tanks and seta grenade next to them and BOOM. It wouldnt take out their hole planet but it would make a really big explosion.
Wat is a food nipple(I know about the grunt in the MAW)
Ok, perhaps the grunts homeworld has oxygen! We breathe oxygen but the atmosphere has only 21% oxygen. (the rest is nitrogen, co2 and other chemicals) Perhaps the grunt world has like 78% nitrogen (like ours), 15% oxgen and 16% methane and 1% other gases. So there very well might be enough oxygen to cause fires. Although a single spark is likely to blow up the world I think lol.
Wheres the link
You guys need to take a chemistry class. I don't thinktheir entire planet's atmosphere is just methane. Besides fire needs 3 things: heat, oxygen, fuel(methane).

What I want to know is...if they breath methane (aka Fart air) what do they fart? Propane? But If they fart oxygen we could have a Grunt BBQ after all!
True you need oxygen to create fire but maybe that is why they use plasma no oxygen necessary to use those weapons afterall they use plasma in space to.
Posted by: ash55Basically:Fart air = methane + all other waste productsMethane = methane <---(grunts would choose this one) LOL
grunts would choose that one huh???
I say we hold one down and conduct a test,,,
Why would they choose fart air over regular scentless methane eh??Although they ARE strange so maybe they like the smell... (kind of like how flies are attracted to crap?) lol
Posted by: fencr505True you need oxygen to create fire but maybe that is why they use plasma no oxygen necessary to use those weapons afterall they use plasma in space to.They could also use lasers in space seeing as its just concentrated light and requires no oxygen but I guess thats not really the covenants "thing"...
If my memory serves me right I am pretty sure that C4 wouldn't work anyway because C4 doesn't ignite it just expands gases at an extremely fast rate(26,400 feet per second) producing little or no fires. Thats why there used in demolition all the time. Just brute force very little fire. Thats my 2 cents.
There has to be some oxygen, cuz in The Flood, is said that yayap was thinking about his homeplanet and it said his homeplanet had "natural pillars of fire", so there has to be oxygen, and it must be controlled somehow by nature.hey, maybe grunts fart oxygen and they think we need to breathe their fart air to survive.
It's only been mentioned once by the person who said perhaps they're in a methane chamber in a ship. Which I believe to be more likely. I can only assume that the grunts don't wear their masks ALL the time.. in First Strike they talk about dome-tent structures full of methane for the grunts to stay in, that have been set up.
hey guys, wouldnt the grunts have to be the stupidest things alive, cuz they need fire to evolve to get, combstion, flight, gunpowder, all that stuff that made our country grow into a more powerful thing
A world with a methane atmosphere would be proty volotile, maby there is no oxygen in the atmosphere so the methane can't burn. On the other hand the amount of methane may be very small seeing as oxygen is only 21% on Earth (obviously it would have to be far less than 21% methane).
