Hi, I am new to the board but I am not new to Halo, I have 8 characters that each have Solo'd Through the game on Legendary. 5 of those have unlocked all of the symbols for the easier levels as well.
When i first got Halo, I put it on Legendary and started playing, I was having a very hard time getting through the first level. I was getting nocked down quickly especially in areas where there was more than one of the gun toting Bastards. After spending days of trying to pass the first level with no success (co-op allows you to cheat a bit so I don't use it) I decided to improve where I think I was having a problem.
My first problem was trying to Guage where enemies were coming from, obviously you can be surrounded sometimes and when that happens you need to be aware of what is around you. I went to a friends house and we linked up some xboxs, I put them on one team and me on another. They got alien weapons and their objective was to rush me out in the middle of blood gulch. This helped my awareness alot.
My moving and accuracy was not up to par. So my first step was to find a multiplater board with a pole or tall thin pillar, Hang'em High I think has something you can use. I would target the pole and move around it at a close range holding fire down and always trying to make sure my bullets hit the pole. After about 3 laps I would back away and do some more. When I felt that the distance was to far I would stay at that distance until I was comfortable. After my pole practice, I made my girlfriend run around me, us basically circling each other to see how my accuracy was vs an opponent. Then I gave her freedom to do whatever she wants, Jump, Duck, Run, Hide, but always moving. This has improved my kill time tremendously, which helps take out the enemies fast enough for some of your Marines to survive.
Grenade accuracy: I basically appied the previous techniques to that, Always moving and always having a moving target. My goals were to stick them on the head of my opponent. After a while I was 50% with about an 80% of hitting any part of their body.
Switching Guns: Practice doing things like Charging the Plasma Pistol and after releasing it, finish them off with a couple of shots from the Marine Pistol.
Learning what hurts what more.
I am sure most of you already know this, but I just want to let you know how I got to be a good Halo player with almost no FPS experience prior.
I still play almost daily and I plan to be 100% ready for Halo 2.
The only problem with Halo is that all other FPS's pale in its footsteps.
