We're all going to hell we may as well (GO OUT IN STYLE)! /// Diamond's Aren't Forever -- Bring Me The Horizon.

Me and my bro are argueing on whether or not there is a gravemind in Halo 1.

Very childish but I don't care. Yes we are argueing over a video game.

So is there a gravemind in Halo 1. Books count if maybe it was described in The Flood.

It was becoming a Gravemind, but not quite there. "It" was made of Captain Keyes and a bunch of other corpses. You can make out human legs behind the Captain's.

It was called a "Proto-Gravemind" according to my Halo trading cards...
So I guess, like chickenlittle said, it was on it's way to becoming a Gravemind.

But it never spoke or seemed to gain any real influence over the Flood or power just yet. So I would say no.

There was a Proto-Gravemind or Flood "Brain Form" present on the level Keyes. I assume that the Gravemind from Halo 2 was alive during that time. Just not active in that point of the storyline.

There was also a Miniature "Brain Form" on the level High Charity in Halo 2. It is what flew the Pelican into the platform. This leads people to conclude that "Brain Forms" are used to pilot ships; if nothing else.

That is a surprisingly good point. I had always thought that the combat forms had piloted the Pelican, which is why it crashed, but your explanation may well be the correct one. It also explains why the Proto-Gravemind was forming in the control room, so it could pilot the ship, without having to move around. One thing: if we are taking into account the Halo canon books, when the Marines took over T & R, it was no longer there, but had moved elsewhere in the ship, and posed an immense danger, according to Jenkins(a Marine partially infected by the Flood). If this is true, then it would have to be able to move, which would be quite a feat for a huge blob bigger than the doors.

Anyone ever take the time to listen to the (backwards) incantations during the (can't remember which) hallway in Two Betrayals ? Must turn the volume up pretty high, but fairly Gravemind-ish.

To play or not to play....

There wasn't one. The Flood may have been building one on that Covenant cruiser they tried to take over. They built a brain form (the thing that Keyes was inside of) and were gathering more bodies in the various rooms around the ship. My guess is those bodies were going to be used to feed a gravemind entity. However it never really happened as the Flood never finished their creation.

or...

What if that thing the Flood made on that ship was just a brain form designed to pilot the ship. The Flood seemed hell bent on getting off Halo. Up until now I simply assumed that was just the way the Flood is. They seek ways to spread and what not.

However I have been thinking lately that maybe the Flood wanted to go to Delta Halo to free the Gravemind there.
