Short time ago i read the novels again and noticed somethings:
Mendez went to train a new group of spartans.
In ONIs Mountain base Dr.Hasley found a file SIII and there was a starchart of a terretory not in UNSC controlled space and next to it was written : CPOMZ, i think this means CPO MendeZ,
Later Dr:Hasley takes Kelly on a ship and departs into slipspace, Cortana says there exit vector is not a Unsc controlled system.
My Opinion: Dr.Hasley took Kelly to nthe star system where Mendez is training the new spartans and they will make an apearance in Halo 3, or another book.

Anyone else notice this?
(sorry if this has alredy been discussed)

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I agree with. Infact in the New Mombasa forum a guys is writing a fanfic of the unofficial book of what happens after HALO 2. It is very good and i think he is working towards revealing the second group of spartans.

The thread is called HALO book 2/3 i suggest if you liked the book you should read it. He writes just like Nylund.

Okay, I am confused (which rarely ever happens). I just got through playing Halo CE campaign again today, and I thought Mendez dies during the level of 343 Guilty Spark. It shows it in the video from Jenkins' helmet recorder. And in the book, I think he survived, what's going on?!

Mendez is the guy who trained the spartans has kids. He was never on Halo. He is an unknown location training More spartans. I think you are confused. Read the FAll Of Reach it explains everything.

I think you are talking about the black guy, Johnson. He was attacked by the flood but they didnt kill him, or take over his body. That is all explained in First Strike.

No, I have read the whole series, and if you go back to the level 343 Guilty Spark, you'll see what I'm talking about... anyways, that might just be a coincidence though.

well its a big army. there are bound to be some guys with same last name. Think about though. If MC is in his 30"s then mendez must be an very old man.

Linda died when they were trying to find out why the covenant came to earth. I thought fred died earlier when they went on the disabled covenant ship, and he was blown out to space and they couldnt find his body, and I dont remember about will.

According to what The Fall of Reach says MC should be about 31, but according to the dates at the beginning of each chapter he should be about 41. I think he's supposed to be in his 30s, but it's a little confusing.

Yeah that's one of Nylund's faults, he get's things mixed up. At one point I counted that there were about 12 more Spartans than he meant (later on in the book he gave the actual number). And I noticed a couple of typos (very minor). But it's just this whole numbers thing... pisses me off.

Either way, I think that the second group of Spartans should make an appearance somewhere in the Halo storyline. I would expecially like it if it was in the books.

Remember when Master Chief returns to Reach, he has flashbacks of Mandez and the spartans training at the facility, and before he sets out to test the new armor he's wearing, he encounters a old captain. Master Chief askes who are you and he replies just a old captain (can't remember exactly what he says) I think that was Mandez.

page 247:
The Master Chief walked briskly to the perfabricated structure. Antohrer pair of MPs, MA5B assault rifles at the ready, double-checked his credentials before they admitted him to th building.

"Ah, here at last," said an unfamiliar voice. "Let's go, son, on the double, if you please.'

John paused; the speaker was an older man, at least in his sixties, in the coveralls and a lab coat of a ship's doctor. No rand insignia, though, jOhn thought with a twinge of concern. For a moment, the imate of his fellow Spartans - very young, and clubbing, kicking, and beating un-uniformed instructors into unconsciousness flashed into him memory with crystal clarity.

"Who are you sir?" he asked, his voice cautious.

"I'm a Captain in the UNSC, son," the man said with a thin-lipped smile, 'and I'ven ot time for spit and polis today. Let's go."

A Captain - and new orders. Good. "Yes, sir."

That is how it is in the books. It could be Mendez, or it could be one of the trainers as well, or just a Captain that helps Dr. Halsey in CASTLE on the MJOLINIR project.

Question is would the second group of spartans be old enough to fight. If MC is in his 30s how old are they?

A second group of SPARTANS would make for some really cool surprise reinforcements in Halo 3.

Yeah, Mendoza was just a private who got infected by the Flood. Mendez is the guy whos trained the Spartans.

Mendez left John's group of Spartans in 2525 (page 94 in The Fall of Reach). And calculating that the Spartans are 30 instead of 40, that would make them around 17. Yes, they would be able to fight. Maybe that is who Dr. Halsey took Kelly to see and mobilize.... That way John's squad (what is left) and the second group would be able to unite forces against the Covenant invasion, which might I add that Dr. Halsey accuratly predicted despite ONI.
