Hey,
I played all the way thru & now I'm on Truth & Reconciliation on Legendary & the Needler doesn't seem to be good for much of anything (supposedly kills Elites but most anything else seems to work better for me).

Maybe it's just me, but the Marathon games seemed to have a lot more firepower (flamethrower, etc).

Sniper Rifle is essential for some levels &

Shotgun is the all-around best for blasting the Flood and making sure other meanies die quickly & don't get back up again.

Rocket launcher good against Alien Tanks.
Plasma better than the machine gun unless you have gobs of ammo.
Pistol actually useful occasionally since it has zoom.

for multiplayer, its good to use in tight hallways where they cant dodge the needles

the needler is good. its good for three things:
1. it is the ultimate anti-noob weapon. they dont know how to dodge it
2. dont want to waste good ammo? grab a needler from a dead grunt and use it to engage all covies in the area, then after theyre dead, go back and pick up your more valuable weapon(only in emergengies, like if you only had a rocket launcher and a sniper rifle... not my choice for battling a bunch of grunts... ammo is too valuable)
3. killing single enemies at medium range.

i relleay dont use it on anything, except for my friend who snipes a lot, when he reloads a pump a full clip of needles into him.

It's pretty easy to dodge in multiplayer, but the Needler is one of the two best weapons in single player (the other is the plasma pistol). It's awesome against the Elites, especially on Legendary. (On the easy difficulties you don't have to put much thought into your weapon selection, but on Legendary you'll find the AR and pistol essentially useless against the Elites.) It's especially useful for those times when you have to fight several Elites from a distance.

The needler is also good against the flood and sentinels.

I have a friend who recently played through the entire game on Legendary using the Needler almost exclusively. He said it was a lot of fun, and he's gotten extremely good at using the Needler by doing that.

One especially fun thing to do is to use the exploding needles to your advantage. When fighting a bunch of Covenant from a distance, pistol snipe the grunts so they drop their grenades near each other, then fill up an Elite with a dozen+ needles and watch him explode. The explosion will set off a chain reaction of grenades that should kill most of the other nearby enemies. Pretty cool.

I beg to differ. the AR and pistol are awesome against elites, just make sure their shields are down first with a freindly overcharged plasma blast

The needler and assault rifle are quite effective on the Battle Creek map.

I found on multi-play, it isn't good against retreating tanks, they just bounce off the back!

I thought the Needler worked great on Hunters as long as they didn't block them off with their shields. Of course I would prefer a Rocket Launcher over a Needler if I was up against a Hunter.

This is what i think are the best weapons for each covie on legendary.

Elite: Most of the plasma weapons are great against them on legendary especially the needler and plasma rifle. possibly after you take down their shields with ur plasma weapons you couls use a pistol or anythin to kill them off.

Hunter: As of course the pistol is alway the best for the hunters. 1 shot and off you go.

Jackle: The best weapon for these i think would be the plasma pistol and maby a pistol or assult rifle, blast away their shield and fill them with lead.

Grunt: Any weapon will do for these creature, but i like to use the needler cause they scream and run, but pistol is a fav for them as well.

Flood: For the elite and Marine infected flood the best weapon is of course the shotgun, for the spore carriers most human weapons will be affective, and for the spores the assult rifle is probably the best.

Sentinals: Probably the plasma pistol.

Vehicles: Anything with high explosives i.e rocket lausncher, grandades etc.

I think ive covered them all.

On Legendary I have found the best way to go through the game is is two weps combos:

In the levels without the flood, the pistol and plasma pistol combo reign supreme. Use the over charge to lower any wheilds and pump em full of lead. The needler is nice against elites too.

For the flood I prefere a shotgun and assault rifle, covers abothe ends, infection forms and combat forms. When its mixed I scavenge a lot,the needler comes in handy on these levels the most, like Keyes and The Maw.

But what about the mixes? Anyways, with Halo 2's new and improved Needler, I think it'll see a lot more action in the easier and harder difficulties, rather than being a weak choice for games in easy difficulties.

Needlers are liked in Halo for their multitude that can be found from the Covenant (I think the Flood prefer the AR, Shotgun, and Plasma Rifle the most, not so much the Needler)- it's like collecting dust, they're that common in most difficulties.
