I have a P4, 3.0gig processor 512meg ram with an ATI 9600 vid card that has 256m memory.
During on line play I get choppy performance, it is similar to poor ping, or I get kicked out, I am on cable. I also get a simbol on the lower right tht looks like a network jack with and X on it?

Any suggestions?

This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

The crossed-out network jack is a dead giveaway for a poor connection, close to being disconnected. Your system specs look ok to me, so I only have one suggestion: are you playing on low-ping servers?

Even with the best machine and best connection speed you will get massive lag and even loose your connection when playing on a server (dedicated or not) that simply can't handle all the clients. That's a common mistake done by people hosting games: increasing the maximum number of players and/or specifying a wrong connection type in the setup.

If you ARE playing on low-ping servers, then either wait for ThE_MarD or sexy legs david to respond, or send them a PM.

Heyyo,

First off, make sure you're not downloading or uploading anything, that will sap up your bandwith, and probably what's getting you kicked from servers. It can be anything, internet exploiter (firefox if you're smart) downloads, ilegal stuff like kazaa, torrent network, etc. Then, check your network options in halo, set it to adsl/cable low or medium for cable internet I suggest low, for the average dsl account I suggest medium. Then when you search for servers to join, make sure you organize by ping, and pick the smaller numbers in ping you can. Anything below 60 is very good. anything higher gets pretty annoying and hard due to latency (it's not lag, lag is when you start getting connection problems and your game ceases to work right).

Other than that? make sure you're on halopc v1.06, not the most stable patch, but most servers are onnit.
