Classic rock, all the way. AC DC, Hendrix, Guns n' Roses, Rush, and how could I leave the Led out. Back then was when real music existed.

had to vote R&B, since i figured no one else would. gotta represent the late, great, Ray Charles. and of course the still living, but gone quite insane, godfather of soul - James Brown.

I prefer nu metal(Rage Against the Machine). It sounds.... kick ass! Punk/goth rock is definitely down at the bottom of my list. Along with Swiss clock dancing. Uggghhh...

Metal is not music, and niether is most rap. Music involves beat and rythm.

I'd have to disagree. Metal, or at least good metal, has beat and rythm. Without those, Metal is crap. Just listen to most of Slipknot's stuff, all it sounds like is 5 guys banging on things while one plays the same chords over and over on the guitar, and it sounds like crap. The only exception is a few Slipknot songs that are a slightly softer and actaully contain singing.

Really if you look at it, some of the best metal has strong classical influences. And nothing is cooler than heavy metal with an Orchestra lending a hand.

A few good Hard Rock/Metal bands to check out: Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Crossfade, Mushroomhead, and the always-awesome Tool

-EDIT-

You'll notice the one major category I left out of the Poll, Pop. That stuff is what's not music. It's all factory made "bands" or bubblegum "artists" who lip-sync and dance around in unison with 5 backup dancers.

I don't think there's ever going to be a fixed definition of what is and what isn't music, so don't bother finding/creating one, it'll just end being something very subjective.

Personally I like anything that comes my way and sounds good, although I do have a special interest in gothic symphonic metal.

Have you ever heard Therion? I'm guessing you haven't, listen to them -especially their newer stuff- you'll probably change your mind. It's less gothic than you would think, just more metal-opera-ish than average metal and stuff. Anyhow it's my personal taste, if you don't like that's fine, but at least give it a chance.

I shan't do any such thing! I'll stick with Rage Against the Machine.
