So thats why some of the Avalanche shots from the trailer looked... well, "Gloomy." I foresee a lot of maps using that one!

Really sweet new objects as well, I was just thinking about the Light Bridges (aka, solid sheild doors) and how useful they would be. Now, please tell me they are scale-able as well? That would be perfect!

Ha! Shishka, you and Frankie are going to end up tearing the comapny into a Civil War using the Halo movie props as real weapons. I wonder who Lukems will side with? Hmmm....

The camera editing will be very interesting during the actual match, because if you can now hinder the players' sight in a particular area, or wanted to set a certain mood (i.e. black and white for drama at the map's center). The only thing that could possibly be better is the ability to spawn AI Grunts, Brutes, Marines, Spartans, etc.

Been counting down for the weekly update since Monday and tbh I was quiet dissapointed when I read it. Both about it's content but as well about what I expected. I expected some more news about Team S.W.A.T in the daily playlist hopper and I actually hoped for a release date, but not a single thing about SWAT was said.

Then Forge, I know alot of people like forge and I'm one of them but this is not gonna make us alot more excited Bungie, it has been suggested so many times on the forums and thousands of happy forgers have given their opinion about how Forge could be best improved for weeks and not a single time a Bungie employee took notice of the post or at least didn't take the time to tell us whether what we were wanting to get into forge was actually even possible. It's all sweet and cool trust me, new objects are always a nice thing to have, but at this moment most of us forgers are so frustrated by various things in Forge that all we want now is an improvement of the way forge works and not what items we can use in Forge.

The current way is so basic and there's only very SLIGHT adjustments needed to make it so much more FUN that I'm still wondering why Bungie didn't take the opportunity to improve forge with the upcoming Map Pack. For those of you who don't get what I'm talking about, some slight improvements that could be made to forge are:

* Forge "glue"
* 5 Degree rotation possibility on the D-pad
* Ability to lock objects, so that if you are trying to place them somewhere and they hit another object they don't get out of control right away but instead they stay in the same position until you "unlock" it again.
* Many more building materials in ALL levels

Those are just some improvements that are definitely needed to make forge alot more enjoyable and it will for sure create much better maps than what we've seen so far. Besides the basic improvements I can also come up with some more "heave improvements" which I'm not sure of whether they are actually possible to create but it would be cool if something of this could be incorparated into forge.

* A terrain tool
* Color pallete for objects and environment
* Ability to change weather or time of day
* Bots
* An "undo" and "delete all" button
* Unused vehicles (passenger Hog, AA Wraith etc.)
* Standardized builing supplies for all levels (you can use all the same stuff on all the maps)

As you can see there's alot of things that can be improved concerning the current forge, some of them are probably impossible to create but I'm sure that the basic ones on top should be able to make it into forge. There's been polls concerning this, and some posts even asks people how much they would be willing to pay for all these improvements if it were to be some sort of DLC. I personally agree that these improvements should already have been there since Halo 3's release and therefore if they are coming in any kind of DLC they should be free, but IF we would have to pay for them I, and many more others, are willing to pay up to TWO COMPLETE map packs (1600 Microsoft Points), just to indicate our concerns about Forge.

I hope you get my points Bungie, improve/REPAIR forge first before you invest in it by creating new items that are gonna have the same complications when we go into forge again...



well the new stuff is pretty awesome, but i do agree that the transport warthog MUST be on avalanche, imagine infection with 5 guys firing madly at the zombies
yeah i know, spartans/elites don't fit into the goddamn thing but why not change it slightly
you changed the skins of the vehicles, and created new forge objects, so why not alter the transhog too
i know it's useless for matchmaking, but the awesomeness for infection would just be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugetacular

If you want to become a video game programmer, you must first become a great programmer. The most reliable current way to do this is to enter a Computer Science program at a university, don’t skip classes, study and work hard, and become one of the top students in your class. Don’t worry too much about getting into a top-ranked school – the motivation and talent you bring with you will serve you better than all the Ivy League trappings in the world.

Hundreds of top Computer Science students try to break into the game industry every year. How can you separate yourself from the pack? One very effective way is through personal projects. A candidate with a 3.5 GPA and an impressive self-developed game demo is often more impressive than a candidate with a 4.0 GPA and no personal game work. Personal projects show your enthusiasm for and commitment to making games, and can also demonstrate your skill in working in larger systems than are seen in collegiate projects.

Other things that help are playing a lot of games, reading GDC papers and presentations, reading articles on video game development forums like GameDev and GamaSutra, and reading physics books in your spare time.

Was there a single game or moment when you realized that you wanted to make games? How’d you get into this line of work?

When I first played X-Wing, in March of 1993, I knew I wanted to make games. 5 years later, when it came time to pick a college major, I decided my best shot at making games was leveraging my love of computers and math and becoming a programmer (also, I hated creative writing and had no artistic taste, talent, or inclination). I was persistent (and lucky) enough to get an internship with a local game company in Los Angeles in my junior year, and the rest is history.


Along with the majority of people on here, I would love to work at bungie. Not just because one day it will rule the world and you get pastry-delights, but because it would so cool to see your dreams come to fruitition. I'm currently in college taking computing and my tutor is great, well.. he knows a lot of stuff, even if half of it is probably a lie, like his claim that if he stopped being a teacher and worked on his own company more then he'd be a multi-millionaire by the end of the year. Okay, so far so good right? I'm into computing with a great teacher, it's just my own unbelievably misapprehension of the work that gets me. Somehow I manage to fail continuously. Ironically, my other subjects are Electronics and then my best subject is my English Language, and I love creative writing and just making up stories that'll lead the readers mind of a path of dauntingly insane situations. I mean, what would you do if the sun exploded right now ? BBQ? I know I would... So here's my dilemna (I think) I need a job by the end of college, I already have one, ironically I sell pastry-delights at my local stadium, and they are goooooood. Anyway.. I need a job this summer and then generally for the rest of time. I'm not so good at the whole computing aspect of things, I even tried to get to grips with using Maya, as I saw that pretty much all of your jobs required it. I've only messed about with it for the last 2 hours now, but it's pretty obvious that it takes alot longer than that to be able to have a good handle on the software, unless you've tried something similar before. On the other hand, I like creative writing and I want to be able to write something and see it come to fruitition. I know you'd probably have advertised the job position online for a writer, but I need to be an apprentice to something, because at the moment, my quiet little town just doesn't offer anything much in the way of jobs, other than selling food and other bits and bobs. I just don't think that retail is for me. I wrote some beginnings to stories and ideas on a networking website, purely because it had an author's section to it. I get the feeling this is going to be unlikely, but if you want to read them contact my Bnet account (above) or gamertag (shifty373) I guess living in the UK doesn't help either, right ? Anyway, I hope I hear from anyone who reads this because there's nothing wrong in trying. Unless it's for recon.

i hav a few questions and they may have already been asked but i didnt feel like reading 9 pages but will you be able to put multiple filters on at one time? (dumb question but i still wanna know) and do the objects on ghost town move? also how big are the unpassable barriers?
