As I was looking through halo 1 transcripts, I noticed a quote from the library.

343 GUILTY SPARK:

This installation's research facilities are most impressive! Perhaps we'll have time to see them later.

This brought a question to me...if Guilty Spark is the moniter of installation 04, why was he in awe over and installation he should have been familiar with(seeing as how he is/was in charge of the place.)

of course, there are many flaws in this.

1)GS may have had restricted access to the library.
BUT, if this was so, how did he know his way around?
2)He knew his way around, did he recently pick up schematics, or was he just a fan of his creators work?

Im really 50/50 on my own theory. IF 343 was not native to halo 04, then where did he come from? Was he native, and only assigned to moniter certain areas? If so, how did he know how to get around the library? Why did he want to look around a place he should have been in countless times before?
Nothing TOO important to the storyline really, unless of course he isnt native. But a curious fact none the less.
Tell me what you think, and sorry if this has been stated before, just a late noticer I guess.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

He is a crazy robot, i think that was just conversation

that was one of my theorys flaws. Thats why I questioned the possibility of his restricted and/or limited access to parts of halo, such as the library, and their schematics. but if that was the case, how did he know his way around?

Okay, while I was playing too, I noticed a couple of things...

1.) Guilty Spark was leading me around the Library and said, "The flood are preparing your shuttle as we speak."

Does that mean that the flood actually predicted MC's arrival? Or does Guilty Spark think that MC is a descendant of the forerunners come back to activate the ring?

2.) Guilty Spark was leading me yet again, and this time he said, "This facility was built to conatin and research the flood."

That propels my theory even farther that the flood were there when the forerunner existed. I think that the forerunner had not been able to contain the flood, so they built the rings to hold the flood so they could not spread any farther, then they transported them to the rings to activate them and ended up wiping out their own race.

the preparing the shuttle comment pertains to the flood taking over PoA and repairing it.

The forerunner did build the rings to study the flood as well as destroy their food if necessary.

elite747 is correct. As we all know, 343 says, at the end of 343 Guilty Spark:
Greetings. I am the Monitor of installation 04.
so I believe 343 is a native of halo 04.

But the quote:
This installation's research facilities are most impressive! Perhaps we'll have time to see them later. does bring up some interesting ideas. It sounds as though 343 is introducing MC to the halo facility. But, if 343 thought MC was a Forerunner, why would he offer to take MC on a tour of halo, since a Forerunner ought to know his way around halo? One could argue that because of this quote, Guilty Spark sees MC as a human, not a Forerunner, and that 343 is able to distinguish between Forerunners and humans.

Obviously, there is some limit to 343's power on Halo, since he cannot act as the reclaimer himself. But where does the monitor's authority stop? Is it possible that he is only able to enter certain parts of Halo under extreme circumstances (say a breech of Flood quarantine). Maybe 343 is not allowed in certain parts of Halo under normal circumstances, but still had knowledge of thier schematics in case of an outbreak.

bah

He was merely stating that the facilities are impressive. Like, if you had a new big-screen TV in your room, would you show it to all your friends first chance you got? He's just giving MC a touor, that's all.

He's PROUD of the facilities, he's PROUD of Halo, he's PROUD of the Forerunner(s).

343 new about the installation, but he believed MC was a Reclaimer.
