I am labelled the "xbox nerd" at school and I have only 1 friend who is like me. We are hardcore halo fans but there are bullies who seek vengeance on us for liking xbox. Once 1 of them punched me in the face and my tank brother sorted him out, but mybrother said he would only do it once and I must stand up for myself. Sure I am a black belt in Taekwondo (as of 2 months ago) but that does not help verbal teasing. Any advice?
#1, Unless they're handing out the belts for free now, he should have never connected with your face.
That being said - If it's one or many Bullies and it's verbal abuse, the best option is for you to ignore it, it's only an ego blow, and if you take into account that most of the people who are bullies in High School and Middle school will be bagging groceries in a few years, it will be even easier to realize that there's no point for retaliation now, just remember to ask them for paper, double bag when you're both out of High School.
If it's one bully, and it's physical, any TaeKwonDo training you have should be enough to neutralize the immediate threat to yourself and get away. Even without Martial Arts training, you can take steps to defend yourself, stomp the top of their foot with your heel, elbow them below the ribcage, or punch them in the throat (Just hard enough, not too hard as this CAN kill someone) Just do enough damage to get away. Fighting is not the answer unless you have no choice.
Which brings me to Multiple bullies, physically attacking you. It's a no win situation in the long run, but down't be a hero. Focus on the biggest one you can find and ignore the rest. Even if you manage to knock him down, don't change target, the rest of them will only have clear shots at your back, and may end up hitting each others fists more often than you. Continue hitting the one until you either get knocked out or he does, If he does, switch to another target. Usually a couple will bug out, seeing as you ferociously attacked the biggest.
Even if YOU get knocked out, they'll damn sure think twice about doing it again. Most bullies are after easy targets, when a target ceases to be a pushover, 90% of the time they'll focus their attention elsewhere.
I was a bully once, and I learned my lesson quick after picking on a kid who had Brown in Aikido. He mopped the floor with me even though I was 2 feet taller and outweighed him by at least 70 pounds. He got me into Hapkido.
