The topic was, and I believe still is governmental and parental involvement in the videogaming industry.

Right, yes.

No more telling of my evil plotting...

I say the government should be a little more competent in how it deals with the issue. Clear and concise age restrictions such as what you would find in the theater. If someone cannot prove their age they should not be allowed to purchase or even rent a game that was not intended for a 13 year old. It wouldn't be hard to implement except for one thing; the companies that sell these games would loose money.

As for parents and video games, if mommy and daddy would educate themselves about not only the games themselves, but also about the ESRB and the way they rate games. And maybe if they included themselves in the activity they'd be able to form a educated view on the situation.

In this modern age of ours those we place our trust to protect us are ultra paranoid and taking the protection thing muuuch too far.

I will rule. I just need to finalize my plans and make a stop in Russia for some nuclear material. Either the nations of the world will recognize my dominance or I will usher forth a nuclear holocaust the likes of which you could only dream of.
Hahaha, you think you can scrape together enough to make anything worth blowing up? Nuclear wars don't start over individuals, mate.

I typed out a huge response but the forum ate meh words : (

In any case, I see NO reason why the government has the right to censor this media, just like they don't have the right to censor movies or books. It's not a power under the constitution, mind you. Until I see a definitive study that playing violent games makes you violent (and not the other way around) I refuse to see this censorship as anything other than another effort by soccer moms and fat, old, right-wing men to meddle in my personal life again. I disagree with you Obi - games are not drugs, no matter how may times you say it. They are a form of published media, and as such NOBODY has the right to tell me what I can and can't do with it.

I'm 17 and there is nothing more infuriating then walking into best buy (with a counterstrike shirt on, and xbox 360 boxers btw) and having some prick tell me I can't buy the game for my sister. Even more infuriating is that I can't even hurt them by not buying it since the buisness model for software is so messed up.

If it wasn't for the hyper-evident hypocrisy I most definitely would. He's like Joseph Mcarthy except for his topic of witch hunting is different, and instead of politicians soccer moms and Fox News are his allies.

What I find amusing is that he is not going after GTAIV, and instead seems rather laid back. Meanwhile, the MADD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving) organization is going nuts, despite the fact that drunk driving is in dozens of games.

For example, World of Warcraft, which IMHO deserves a rating of AO. I mean come on. If you make a game where you can ride a griffon while under the influence, you are supporting the idea that it is ok to operate a car/flying mount while drunk. I am personally offended that Blizzard does not take the initiative and cancel the servers to create a patch to remove this offensive and possibly deadly content.

Italics = Extreme case of sarcasm

On a less sarcastic not. Sweet Jesus, drunk driving does not = AO. -blam!- = AO. Leave GTA alone. Anyway, I heard that there are rumors that the game will be ported to the PC in October...but those are just rumors, and I believe the game is coming to the PC holiday to next spring earliest.

Once a problem as such could be dealt upon locally, a consensus reached among those in question. If required, a sort of code could be compiled by those who make games to remove from them whatever unspeakable thing should arise. A code that could be regulated arbitrarily, and of course upon petition by those who buy games. Allow those concerned and involved to decide what is acceptable and what is not, but there are no morals left.

Big LOL

So earlier today I was totaling my car over and over in the new demo for GRID, when someone here from the bungie forums spotted me out while I was making some turns in my M series BMW. What are the odds that I would run into a fellow spartan, on a racetrack?

Well it dawned on me, this is exactly the reason why people love PC gaming, and why Games for Windows is a horrible attempt at cashing in on this community. In it's attempt to make Microsoft money, it is strangling good online games. If Halo 3 is ever made for the PC/Vista/Windows7, GamesForWindows has to be either drastically changed, removing the "paytoplay" aspect, or at least make a half-decent port so that we can build an awesome community here, with great "OMG I saw yuo on the forum moments."

BTW, if your computer can run it, you MUST get the demo for GRID. The game seems awesome, even on my graphically lacking ATI Radeon x1650. It took me a while to read the that the chat button was the "home" key, because I'm running the game on 800x600. I am pleasantly surprised that I found a spartan online, and if you can read this, "Sry I had to disconnect so soon. My mom just came home with pizza, and didn't want me on the computer for too long. Maybe we can organize some spartans together and have a crazy race on the GRID demo." Hope to see you again. :)

I think this shows that the community here is very tight, and that if we are given good games, and not taken advantage of, everyone will be happy in the end.

I love music, and I want to learn all of the Halo Trilogy music. Please! Give me the sheet music!

Indeed. It was I who made this observation, and I enjoyed playing with you almost as much as you enjoyed your pizza :P. And, yes, I'd recommend to everyone who reads this that you go grab this demo. It's a beautiful game and loads of fun. It's moments like those that make me smile and think, "This is why I still play PC games." The truly dedicated Halo PC fanbase is one of the smallest, yet look at what happens when I join a randomly chosen Quick Match. It's really amazing, and I tinks what happened today is going to have more of a meaning in the future. We were linked by the GRID, and we may be once again soon. BTW, it's fine that you left, because I had to leave soon after.

WARNING! INCORRECT USING THIS FEATURES MAY CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM BROKEN!

as with the american government the british government is going down hill to, houses aren't selling for as much as they used to (they sometimes drop by £15,000) and a loaf of bread that I could have gotten for 50p a year ago now costs over £1, I hate the government and until we can get a government that won't up prices I'm just not going to vote.

As unrelated to videogaming as his statement sounds, the economy actually does have an effect on the industry. I'm not familiar with the british economy, but here in the United States, we are suffering from a bad case of stagflation, where the inflationary aspect is driving up the cost of products. I used to be able to get a box of cereal for $2, but now it costs $4 for a box half the size. For videogames, besides the N64's $60 cartridges back in the day, most console games costed a maximum of $50 bucks. Now the standard for Xbox360 and PS3 are up to $60. Thankfully, the PC games have not suffered as badly, though we are getting a lot less sales on new games than we used to. Hopefully the new US president, be it Clinton, McCain, or Obama, will be able to solve our country's debacle soon, so we can keep on gaming with money in our pockets as well.

See? thats the whole problem with governments, when some whack job comes into power, it always ends with corruption and mind games round the clock.
If i were American i'd vote Reformist, screw the conservatives.

Not to be a stick in the mud here, but the discussion is getting to be a little to advanced for some of our, how shall I say it, less learned colleagues. Not to mention the fact that Bungie.net admins try very hard to suppress any intelligent discussions. Maybe we should steer this topic away from political issues and focus more on something a little less volatile. So how 'bout that Casey Stoner? That kids gunna go all the way, and his Ducati OMG, 90 degree V-fours make me hornee!
