we all saw the lock-on function of the spanker in the E3 demonstration. while many cheered, i did not. i think this has the ability to completely unbalance multiplayer. the spanker secures a lock on vehicles much too quickly, and the rocket itself has almost no arc when it travels to its target. in the movie, the rocket hits a warthog that is traveling completely horizontally in relation to the player. i wish this function was removed all together, but if its going to stay, [which it is] it needs to be tweaked, or have the option to be toggled on and off. it should take skill to lead a moving target, you shouldnt just be able to lock on with such little effort. what do you guys think?

i kinda like the new features (i just hope they can be toggled). however, i think that the lock-on was too short. make it something more than one ten-milltionth of a second. maybe like you have to paint the target for 2-3 seconds.

I agree, take it out or make the homing less accurate.

in addition to your vote, please reply with some comments. i'm very interested in what everyone thinks about this. i know that in my circle of halo players, its causing quite an uproar.

ok no one cares what you think about it, plus it only tracks to a certain degree, its not like it hits you every time, it only lock on to vehicles, not ppl

Again. You have to know when to use the homing function and when to use direct fire. A single rocket isn't going to do anything against a vehicle unless you're a lucky bugger or quite skilled.

well I think it is mostly for the less experienced, in h1 vehicles were extreamly powerful if you werern't a rocket master, so now I think the quick lock will give my friends and siblings a fighting chance to play me and not get a negative score, my opinion.

I think it looked pretty good in the demo. You notice he still missed a couple times and how many hits did it actually take to destroy the warthog? Seems pretty balanced to me. I think on the first hit from a rocket launcher I'm not going to drive right past the same spot again. I'm going to high tail it out of there or hop out and try to take the guy with the rocket out.

omg wtf: i didnt say it locked-on on to people.

yeah, good points, i just see this as something thats really going to be abused. if you cant lead a warthog, ghost, banshee with direct fire, then you cant. i dont think people should be given an aid.

I think either a) it should take a few seconds before the rocket actually "locks on" or b) the target has to be a set minimum distance before the lock on feature even works. For example, say we were playing Sidewinder with the new lock on feature. If someone grabbed your flag and jumped in a warthog, and you were standing at your base just as they took off, the lock-on feature should be disabled. However, if you were still at your base and they were just about to make it around the corner of the mountain, THEN lock-on would be available because at that distance you'd be hard-pressed to get in a good shot.

I am very worried about this feature too, i posted about it awhile back as well, I think that it should be removed, it takes more skill to time a rocket to hit a vehicle without tracking. Personally, I can time a rocket with a fast moving warthog, I see no need to add this kind of feature.

Though I wouldn't like it, who cares if it locks onto people or not. It would be like dodging the needler in Halo1. If you can't do it, why are you even playing?

only difference rocket launcher has a slighty larger blast radius...

You're missing the point. If it's a rocket and it misses it almost always flies past you harmlessly unless there's a height advantage. Splash damage is also easier to avoid in Halo2 since you can jump three times as high.

Rockets just aren't as scary as they used to be.

i think bungie will balance it out so vehicles arent so friggen good and rockets arent so friggin good the lock on is fine and without how do plan to take down a banshee? plus the fact if you dont want it to be "abused" against you; walk

stop freakin out dude, its annoyin with all these people sayin the lock on is gonna suck. You can easily dodge it, the guy in the warthog dodge it kinda easily. Besides you havnt even played Halo2, and seen what it was like when you play it.

first off in halo 2 u cant jump 3 times as high.... maybe about 6 inches. and the target lock on thing missed the warthog once outta like... 3 homing rockets. so its like around a 33 percent chance of hitting. its not a guarntee. so its not that bad.

Well, over a hundred die hard Bungie fans went to the fanfest including Shishka and Stosh. They were asked what they would change. Some of them asked for the needler to do the explosion on a few less needles and other small details.

Yet, they didn't complain about the lock-on feature for some reason and maybe because it's perfecly balanced?

You can jump clear over a ghost coming right at you. Six inches my buttocks. I couldn't even come close to that in Halo1. I think that's pretty impressive.

Any limited evasive maneuver can deter the rocket. I honestly think that it could use a little longer paint, and a better lock on. Or...Fly by wire rockets would be nice.

hmmm.... 3 times as high would be about 3 master chiefs, for he can jump over one easily in halo 1. And i think a spartan is about like... 8 feet (sry if im wrong but close to that) but i doubt they can jump 24 feet in the air.

oh yeah. and he never jumped over a ghost. he jumped away from it but not over it. and if your talking about the time the elite boarded the ghost... he was on a hill higher above. a slight slope.
