Got a question/ problem. When I download maps, I can't seem to play them. The ol' computer gives me the "open with" window. Ummm, so what am I doing wrong? When I think I've got it, and try to play the downloaded map via a HaloCE server, I get the normal "cannot connect to server". This tells me the the map did not "install", right?
I'm using Windows XP, 2.8 Ghz processor, 512 ram, 120 gigs. Any suggestions? Thanks

Wait, there's no reason you should ever get the "open with message." Okay, so you download the maps you want. Then you open them up with either WinZip or WinRar, but probably WinRar, since it can open up .zip and .rar files while WinZip can only open up .zip files. IF you don't have WinRar, you can get it here. It's free as a demo, but they never actually stop you from using it even after demo period is done... Anyways, unzip the files into the HaloCE / Maps directory. And that's it. If it doesn't play, you may have downloaded corrupt files or are having network problems, which can be fixed, but tell me if this works first.

Yeah, you don't play the maps by double clicking the .map files (i.e. cliffhanger.map). You drop them in the maps folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\maps) and then start up HaloCE. If you're getting the "Cannot connect to server" message, you probably didn't drop the maps in the folder, or the server is running a different (i.e. older or newer) version of the map you have. If the server is running a beta version and you download the full version or vice versa, it won't work (yet another reason why beta testing should be closed and private with a few people, but that's another story).

My Chapter, {UNDERGROUND APOCALYPSE} has a database filled with links to Halo mod sites. We also cover a wide variety of mods in news stories as we find them. Drop by somtime and check out the database. It's public, so you dont have to join to use them. You can find most anything at those sites.

WINRAR, yep, that's what I needed. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the help here on this forum. Later.
