Come on guys, this is Bungie we're talking about. I highly doubt they would start releasing in-game screenshots to the public, after months of the halo community begging for some, with the physics engine going hay-wire. As far as I can tell, there are several possible explanations for what appears to be, a rocket launcher and a red, blue/purple, yellow object floating in mid-air.
NOTE - This first speculation is just that, a speculation with a hint of imagination. The second one is a more realisic view of the topic, with some information to back it up.
1st - While most unlikely of my two takes on this, it could have something to do with a cloaked spartan from an opposing team. See how the rocket launcher is in a downward possition. It could be that a cloaked spartan from an opposing team simply came up and wacked the spartan in the front left of the screen. (Notice how the spartan's upper body, especially his head, seem to be pointed in an upward direction as if he was wacked in the chest or head and is now falling backwards to the ground.) The multi-colored object may not be an object at all. It could be part of the opposing teams custom team colored armor, which isn't cloaked at the moment because it was hit by a plasma shot.
2nd - I once read in an article or heard in an interview, that in Halo 2, not only will the enviornment be desturctive, but the enviornment will react to how it is destructed. For instance, a warthog is coming at you full speed in multplayer. You will have other options beside yelling like a pansie. You could jump to the side as it passes you by and put a bullet in the gas tank for some fireworks, try to shoot out the tires and make it flip out of control, or throw a plasma grenade on the back of it and watch as the back axle breaks under the preasure of the explosion. These examples may be a tad bit elaborate, but you get the idea. If this is in fact a feature in Halo 2, (I'm sorry for not remember the source of this information) then why wouldn't Bungie add this same feature to charcters in the game. If you remember the last screenshot Bungie realesed, it had a red spartan, in the front right of the screen, who looked, to me, to be tripping or, more probable, reacting to being shot on the left side of his body. The same could be said to explain this screenshot. The rocket launcher isn't floating in mid-air, but the spartan was carring it and he was shot in an area of the body that would cause him to drop it. It is also possible that the rocket launcher itself was shot out of the spartans hand. This feature would help balance out the game play, being in Halo you could only carry one weapon, but in Halo 2 you can carry two. As for the multi-colored object, it could simple be some weapon or object in the game that we don't know about. Maybe it something stollen from the opposing team's base; Splinter Cell anyone. Who knows, but I do know that Bungie is one of the most maticulate organizations in the gaming world. There is always something behind the obvious when it comes to Bungie!
