Vulmox has a point.i have seen the movie a month or two ago and i noticed that it looks like a shotgun and the way you hit with the gun is the same.you can also see that it is not a battel rifle because it has no scope and it is not a smg because it looks bigger.

Hey spartan721 you dont know anything about halo2.If you read the books you would know that all the spartans have the same mjolnir armor and the video everyone saw at E3 with the ''spartans'' in the pelican is really ODST soliders in their new armor.

I havent read thie whole bulk of this messy, giant behometh of a thread so I dont know if its been cleared up or not by now, but heres my two cents anyway.
Regarding the green ammo, they look more like needler rounds to me. They have a thin, tapered sort of end with the larger, rounder head, with the same similar trail. Plasma blasts, in Halo games at least, tend to have a shorter body don't they? More robust. Or at least off the top of my memory they do. And it looks kinda randomn, like needlers tend to be if they dont fix on a target. Not to mention I count no less than 6 blasts, so it cant be one round from each enemy, if theyre are four. Then again, this might not be taken straight from an actual combat. perhaps its just an in-game shot but with the players not doing much other then showing off a couple of teasers?
I remember Frankie saying something about the needlers now being the weapon to look for...so a few changes are certain...
Why one of you blokes thought the idea of a green needler is funny is beyond me... But them you did seem to believe in the "designer armour" thing ;)

The screenshot looks quite good, though certainly not the best example. I have one or two grumbles with some of the textures, (the canyon wall to the right of the Warthog looks stretched, but its kind of hard to wrap a texture around a polygonal plain like that without some sort of stretching occuring, I admit), and the metal-ish pillar to the right of that seems to be unevern (look directly under the foregorund Chiefs left elbow), but these are just teaser shots and no doubt the actual in game shots will probably be better. In any event, its an exciting pic, and it's got me all geared up for some of that multiplayer action...yee!

Unfortunately I cant seem to edit my own post so Im gonna have to make another one >_>
I forgot to mention that while the textures on the archway look a bit iffy, I am highly impressed with the lighting and the depth of field, particularly with the headlights on the Warthog and how there's a real sense of depth and volume there. At any rate, from what we've seen of the campaign side of the game, all the design elements (particularly the visuals) work together with totally awe inspiring effect, and a lot of people Ive spoken with involved with game design have agreed that it seems to rival that of Doom 3, (hough obviously that will have to wait to be seen). No doubting the hard work, blood, sweat and tears thats gone into this game...

Maybe since in Halo 2 you can supposedly have 4 teams playing at the same time instead of two it's just one of the new colors for a third or fourth team. You can see two red guys in the background also (one in the jeep and one running in the shadows). I want to know what the glowing streaks are flying past the screen. It looks like the the roof of the cave tunnel that the screenshot is taken in also is falling apart maybe from gunfire (as can be seen by light coming through at the top of the screen. The last thing is I'm really interested in that blue red ball with the green symbol on it. It appears to be falling. Just some thoughts. Go with it where you want.

I still say they're needlers. *Places a 20 buck note on the table*

Former, CSG, Contract Environment Artist for Bungie Studios

Here is what I think.

1. Guy on left is deffinitely dying.
2. Guy on left is holding a shotgun in his right hand and letting go of the BR in the other.
3. Blue and red/orange ball is a plasma nade falling from the guy on left who just died.
4. Multiplayer team colors can be customized.
5. Possibility of more than 2 teams in multiplayer.
6. Standard warthog in background(try barrel gun out of focus makes it look like something else.
7. Green balls of light with trails are the new look of the standard plasma bolt.
8. We have seen the pink needles in other H2 multiplayer screenshots.

I know some of this has been said. I just thought that I would voice these issues in an attempt to bring a close to the debate.
The reason I say that the hog in the background is not a Guass Hog is that the Guass Hog has a huge target monitor on top with the gun actually side mounted, replacing one of the standard deflector shields.

I wanted to discuss the idea of online communities for Halo 2. I've heard much discussion, dealing with Halo 2, that points to some sort of online system that lets clans coordinate together. This supposed system would let clans schedule tournaments, keep track of stats(reference - the new tool bar bungie added), and have some sort of online communty to further the experience of Halo 2 and Xbox live. That's not news to anyone, hopefully. What hasn't really been discussed, and this is pure hope and speculation, is; what if there were two seperate online communities for the same game. An online community for those who are in human/spartan clans, and a community for those who are in covenant clans. Yes, playing as the covenant in multiplayer!!! This is, and I hope it is, the sort of revolutionary multiplayer scenario bungie could be working on. Why revolutionary? Imagine going online to your human/spartan clan homepage through Xbox live(the next installment). You, and the rest of your clan, could then coordianate an attack plan with another human/spartan clan. After a time and a place/level is decided on, you could then send a challenge to the covenant online community. After the challenge is accepted by two coordinated covenant clans, the different sides would then go to battle; notice that I used the word battle.... it would involve a lot of people!!! This, while highly imaginative, could possibly explain why in this newest screenshot none of the brown and red spartans appear to be shooting at each other. If you ask me, they look like they're coordinating or guarding something. We know, from recent reports about the next installment of Xbox Live, that this sort of system could be possible. We also know that microsoft's mind set for the future of gaming is set almost completly on online play/community. This feature in Halo 2 would most deffinately accomplish microsofts goals for the future of Xbox live, and gaming!!!

Sounds uber exciting doesnt it? =)
Looks like we're gonna have to wait for some answers though so it might be best not to get any premature hopes up just in case the features you want specifically arent included...
Unless someone around here actually knows some answers =P

East coast sniper..I do not appreciate people asking if i know anything about halo 2 just because i havent read the books and didnt know that the men fighting alongside mc in the halo 2 e3 demo were actually ODST's.

  • 04.15.2004 6:12 AM PDT

Yea, I know I let my imagination get the best of me sometimes. I just wanted to start a discussion on something other than the supposed "shot gun," and see if anyone had any information or comments to add. I should add that, I have read article/interviews (can't think of the sources at the moment) where the idea of playing as the covenant in multiplayer was discussed. Bungie, of course, never gives a straight answer, but I wouldn't give straight answers either if my ultimate goal was to take over the world! Never the less, thanks for the comment.

Will spartan721 is it my fault that people are asking you if you know anything about HALO 2 I mean if you read the books you would know more about the storyline.

Update:
There are unreleased Halo 2 screens going around the internet from the new Game Informer. In the forums that I have seen these screens, they say that the article discusses a multiplayer mode where you can play as an Elite. These sources also claim that the article talks about more than 2, most likely 4, teams are able to play at the same time. This information backs up some of what I said on page 17 of this forum.

P.S.
Don't get your hopes up until this information is confirmed by bungie. Remember the dissappointment we all had when Halo 2 didn't come out last Christmas, this April, or this Summer!!! I'm just trying to add fuel to the flame... that is Halo 2!

  • 04.15.2004 9:44 AM PDT

One other thing, and then I'll shut up. I just remembered where I got all those ideas on Bungie revolutionizing online play. In the November 2002 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, yes it's been 2 years, there is a huge section (15 pages) on Halo 2. For those of you who save issue, go back and check it out. It's a pretty good read!

why's everyone hating on the screenshot!? I mean yeah its not terrific, but the idea of holding two guns at the same time makes up for it.

I'd have to agree with you. Any new shot of Halo 2 reveals a little bit more about the game and I can't get enough. It' s like being hungry for a bag of Cheetos. I've only eaten a few and they taste so good, but the rest of the cheetos are going to be just as good once I finally eat them. mmhhhh.... cheetos.......

Fall. And don't worry about it, Spartan. Not everyone has read the books. In fact, you don't have to to learn most of the known facts about the Halo and Halo 2 universe.

How many people have noticed that alot of the time the weekly updates give away more of the secrets than bungie probably intends? (ex: Covenant sniper rifle)

Hey GS monkey, don't forget about the homing rocket launcher.(maybe know as the Jack Hammer missle launcher) And the fact that the dual Needlers is going to be one of the best duo weapons in Halo 2. I just can't wait for that magnum pistol!

Do we suppose that there might be the possibility of more than two bases and more flag colors in one multiplayer game?
