Keep in mind that both games are different. Halo CE has a fixed health system, as well as every other creature in the game, ghosts and banshees have health, as opposed to the warthog and the tank, which are invincible, but any damage dealt to the human vehicles, is done to you.
(you would think that it would make more sense for human vehicles to have health, and covenant vehicles to be invincible)
Other than plasma weapons giving a temporary plasma freeze when the victim is shot quite a bit, and the human weapons being different. (pistol that acts like a rifle, and a rifle that acts like a smg, sniper weapon works fine though) Its large maps and large areas make for a great adventure.
Halo 2, is different, this time, you have little health, as well as the enemy. (although the chiefs health does recharge?) The weapons work the way the should, save that the shotgun was degraded, along with the smg. (at least we have a killer RPG) The covenant weapons lost accuracy for balance, the plasma pistol was rigged and degraded, and the rifle lost accuracy, but gained a cool sound when it is used. (you can no longer plasma freeze enemies)
environments are close quarted, AI were improved, (though the jackal gained better combat skills, it doesnt charge pistols much anymore) Aim assist was ramped up (and for AI as well?)
New weapons were available, all vehicles no longer have health, but instead degrade as they are beat up, and can be destroyed. (there is supposively one invincible hog in the second level) and of course, there is xbox live.
I do not cover all the things these games have, but they are both great games, overall.
